I've been "lurking" this forum for a minute and now I've finally decided to start posting. Since the debut of the CLK and driving my Cuz's a few summers back, I always wanted the drop because of the open top "Sex Appeal" but I can't front the Coupe is just so hard and seems like less of a headache if you know what I mean. I spend alot of time back and forth btwn VA Beach and NYC.
Do any of you coupe owners ever regret not getting the drop? I'm kinda back and forth between the 2 bodies. I'm even unsure of V6 vs. V8. Gas being a non factor but more so the purchase price. But I've noticed there's roughly a $2K diff between them so that isn't so bad Coming from a strong but sluggish V8 Range Rover will I really miss it?? I never drove the 320 but I can't imagine it being weak. So current owners, Holla at me. Thanx In addition the '01 55's are looking real tough right now and the prices arent as high as I thought they would be. I'm not a speed freak but don't mind having it the few times I need it either. Good looking out Lowphat on that info!!

FWIW, there is a company in Germany that made a hardtop cover for the cabrio. Then, you wouldn't have to decide between the two

Best of both worlds!!
See that's what I'm talking about Chappy. Good info.. I can only wonder how much that would be. I would love a Hardtop drop i.e. SLK or SL. I was even considering (and you guys prolly hate this being that we're on MBWorld) The Lex SC430. That's an impressive car even with it's controversial styling but that's still too much right now as they are primarily in the Mid 30's for an '02 at best. A hardtop CLK would be a problem on the streets. That would get so much respect!!

I agree! CABS are for ladies. So if you want to attract ladies, get a CAB! It's a chick magnet.
By the way, CHAPPY, do you know the name and contact info of the company that makes the hardtop for the CLK W208?

i personally think it's more the engine that makes the difference in a convertible... a CLK320 cab does seem like more of a girls car than a CLK430, whether cab or coupe.

Thanx, I'm still undecided but definitely plan to be in a CLKsomething b4 the year is out. The Coupes are definitely easier to attain/locate. Price is obviously more practical. I also imagine maintenance to be easier for obvious reasons. Im almost certain I'm going with a V8 I can't see doing a V6 after just coming out of a V8.

03 M3 coupe 6MT, 05 A6 (wife + kid's)
My last car was an E36 M3 cab. I had it for about a year. I just felt too "exposed" when I had the top down. I thought I would like it at first then realized I wasn't much of a cab guy afterall. Maybe if I lived in an area like San Diego I'd go back to a cab, but right now I'm in Chicago so I'll probably stick to non-cab cars for now. As a second car a cab may not be a bad idea though.

That's an excellent point RDD. That's a great link Chappy. Too bad they aren't U.S. based. Even if some other aftermarket companies would do it that would be cool. I used to see my neighbor with his on his late 90's SL and thought that was cool. It gives you that Hardtop appeal/advantage when you want it. That I think is the only advantage the Miniature SLK has. I can only wonder how much that top would be. A hardtop Cab CLK would be crazy. If only.....

I have a 208 cab and a 209 coupe. I enjoy the 208 much more and find myself driving it more often. Sure some people will call you girly in a convertible, but the fact is, all the girls love my car, and it gets way more attention than my 500. Most dont believe that it is older (1999), by its looks.

Chea the only giveaway for a pre 2K CLK is the missing blinkers in the side mirrors and oh yeah the ugly black trim on the 320's. 208's hold up well visually speaking. You get the feeling 10 yrs from now they will be well respected kinda like the way BMW 850's are now. I still smile when I see a well kept 8 series fly by.
