Foglight change?
How hard is it to change out the foglights on a 01 CLK430 with an AMG body kit?
Is it something I should let the dealer do?

I think both the 320 and 430 fogs come with those stupid clips though, so it could be a pain. If you have the AMG fogs on the kit then they probably have those screws in place instead, which should be easier.
Definitely search it up... I know there are a ton of answers around.

One word of advice - do NOT get under the car using the factory jack - we don't want you getting crushed. At the very least, find a friend with jackstands and wheel chocks.

I second what Josh said....that jack stand is a POS....used it a while back and the car rolled over ...almost crushing my leg...luckly I was able to grab hold of the rim and jam it in the wheel well before the car crashed down on the ground. OH yeah....almost ripped out my side skirts too....now a few of the clips are off...

Yep, a floor jack and some stands are some of the best investments you'll make if you plan to do any of this type of maintenance on the car. Add a decent torque wrench and a topsider, and you'll only visit the dealership to buy parts...

Now here is the next question, are the bulbs H1's or H3's? I say a couple of posts in the archives that said they were H3's so which one is it?

reading the posts here re: jacks...what about parking your car over a curb? That aught to give you enough room to get under the car sufficiently to change the fog lamp...cheap and easy.

The panel under the car to get to is in the front of the wheel, so you'd have to have your head in the gutter (literally) to be able to get down there. And chances are you could use a jack and stands for your next brake job, or tire rotation, or oil change, etc.

Well once again, less than 2 weeks after changing the bulb, one of my fogs is out again.
I changed it myself, being REALLY careful not to touch the bulb... used quality H1s from Phillips, etc. And this is after replacing the whole fog light assembly before when the bulbs kept burning out. I bet if I replace this one (driver's side) the other one will go in a few days.
I'm thinking there's some bad wiring or electrical problem with these things... the car has been doing this for a while now -- and of course the dealership doesn't find anything wrong.

Ghostrider,
Where did you get the bulbs from? If I understood you correctly you said they wil be blue for the Fogs? Are they Halogen or HID? Thanks in advance.

Hey,
Got the lights yesterday and put em in...they match the xenons better than my LED city lights!
Thanks,
Jeff
