Nothing exciting, but picked up a new weekday car..

My CLK is in the shop for the next few months and I was completely fed up with my 2001 E320 (damn, what a geriatric go-kart) so I set out to pick up another car this weekend. I needed something to KEEP ME OUT OF TROUBLE during the week, have reasonable performance, and space similar to the E class. I already ordered a new E-class for my wife so I narrowed the choices to a BMW 5 series of Audi A6.... admittedly, the 540i is a bit zippier and feels sportier, however I was really impressed with the build quality and luxury of the Audi and 300 hp + 300 lb/ ft torque + quattro = a relaxing daily drive. Anyway, my beastly CLK (damn I miss that car) will now be my Friday through Sunday car and my Monday through Thursday ride will be this (2002 A6 4.2 with all options)... at least until I can get my hands on an RS6:

My wife wants me slumming it during the week... and, quite honestly, I need a car that keeps me in check 5 out of 7 days or something really bad is going to happen when my CLK gets back. No pictures of the interior... I dig the car as a family/corporate weekday driver, but it doesn't quite merit the effort of taking a bunch of pictures.... I'm so freakin jaded. I do have to say that the build quality and interior detail on the Audi is really impressive.... part of my enthusiasm is borne from the relief I feel in not having to drive that utterly boring and nauseating 2001 E320 anymore (I am banishing that car to a family garage until I get a H1 Hummer to crush it with).

I think I'm prematurely aging.... it was a tough decision and definitely not based on performance, as the 540i was, in my opinion, the faster and more responsive of the 2 cars. I just felt really bad for the Audi salesmen because everyone was across the street buying BMWs.... honestly, the 540 made me feel like driving fast whereas the Audi gave me a more relaxed, yet satisfying, driving experience. As you might understand, at this point in my life, I need at least one car that curbs my desire to stay ahead of every car on the road.

p.s. don't worry, I'll be sure to start working on my wife so she is ready for my tuning plans for her new E class.

LOL!

Nice - the new E will be sweet!

Seriously though, I agree, the Audi is much more comfortable as we discussed!

Good choice, looks sweet!

We just need to get some clear and red tail's on that thing though!

The E320 is just a spare car that is used by my family when one of our cars is in the shop. Right now it is taking up space in my driveway. I'm not getting an H2 (or any SUV for that matter). I was just expressing my frustration with the totally bland E320 driving experience. I always lease at least 1 of my cars because I can write it off as a business expense. In this case, the Audi is leased because it doesn't have great resale value, I can't imagine wanting it (or most cars for that matter) for more than 4 years, and Audi is flexible on their lease trade-in (RS6?). If I don't lease, I just pay in cash. Other than my CLK, which I love because it is completely crazy and my favorite MB body style, I don't get too attached to my cars. Nevertheless, I enjoy German cars with healthy V8s.

No, but I was raised in New Jersey and NYC and have lots of friends that are genuine Goombas... thus my affinity for black cars with tinted windows and gold rolexes.

Ridgewood (until the age of 14) and Franklin Lakes (next door to Phil Simms). I even went to Rutgers undergrad... then I moved to NYC to go to Columbia Law School and work for a few years.... now I'm in California... Damn I miss east coast Pizza... all the Pizza out here is oversized bruschetta.

My brother lived in Ridgewood, now Franklin Lakes. We went to see Simms son play a couple of years ago.

Pizza in this area is incredible, but I was recently on the West Coast in the Bay area and I loved it. What a beautiful city and all that California tail

If I wasn't so attached to my family I would move out there in a heartbeat. Typical Italian family still going to grandma's every Sunday for a huge 20 person dinner.

Yeah, I miss the east coast big time, but the weather out here is ideal for a car and golf freak. I used to see Chris Simms throwing rifles across his lawn when he was a little kid... hope he pans out in the NFL.
