Mobile 1 Synthetic
I'm hoping my car isn't burning engine oil, but when I go down the steep hills of SF, my 'low engine oil' indicator lights up. I know it's probably because I'm going down rather steep hills because I check the computers after I'm level again and the warning is gone.
Question...the dealers all use Mobile 1 Synthetic, right? I thought about topping off my engine oil, but wanted to make sure I'm not combining oils. I suppose I could get an oil change but I'm about 3K miles out to my B Service, so I'd rather wait until then.
BTW...anyone in SF know of a dependable independent Mercedes mechanic?

I use Mobil 1 syn 0-w40. My dealer uses it too, but you may wanna check with your dealer first. Also, be sure not to overfill the oil, that can be almost as harmful as having too little. If you see blue smoke coming out the back of your tailpipe it most likely means you're burning oil. I woulnt worry about it much, these cars are built to undergo abuse from owners with more money than brains so you should be ok.

Have you checked the oil level on a flat surface? If so, and it reads full, I wouldn't add any oil. I've driven my car on Jones in SF and the CEL never lit. Jones must be as steep as any street in SF, so you may be a bit low.

you could also just have a faulty oil sensor. Mine gives off defect codes from time to time in hot weather, but it costs a ton to get fixed and there's nothing really wrong with it.
