Oil change.
Hi,
Was wondering if anyone could help me out. I recently decided to try and do my own oil change. I have done some research on previous posts and found that I need a "Topsider" found that one can be purchased from a marine. Here is a link for some different pumps I found. Was wondering if anyone had experience with any of these and could give me some feedback.

Secondly, It says that the oil needs to be sucked out of the dipstick. I always check my oil from the computer and tried to look for a dipstick yesterday and could not find one anywhere under the hood.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new so excuse the stupid questions. Thanks

you need a 13mm (i think it was 13) socket, decent sized ratched wrench and an drain pan. Topsiders is for people that know jack about cars, you can easily drain it from the bottom, without even jacking up the car.

Well I have no problem doing it from underneath and I have read the process seems very simple. But I have talked to my dealership and have read here on several posts that these oil pans are made to be drained through the dipstick. The dealerships should be doing it the same way. They don't even carry drainplugs for these cars. Can anyone else confirm or deny?

I don't know what the "official" procedure is, but I decided to try one of the vacuums myself. I'm perfectly capable of draining the oil from the pan and maintain all my cars myself, have reuilt motors, etc. but I can honestly say that this little device is pretty freaking clever. I got a Motive Products Power Extractor (from Auto Parts World I think) and it kicks ***. It's not like I mind getting dirty, but I've never had less trouble performing an oil change. Pump this thing up (actually pump it out I suppose) poke it in the dipstick tube and unclamp it and it starts drawing out the oil. Return in 20 minutes to pump it again and about 15 minutes later it's done. No muss, no fuss as they say.
Another nice thing about this device is I can use it to bleed brake lines too.

Hmmm thanks a lot. I guess I should pick one of these devices up. Anyone know where I can get one? Also as I stated earlier, I don't have a dipstick well atleast not one that I can find. Can anyone help me out? I have always just checked my oil from the instrumentation. Thanks
