Here is what Stephane Samson wrote about the CLK-DTM recently, in Grand Prix News:
25th July 2001
Hakkinen tested the DTM Mercedes CLK
At the Czech racetrack of Brno, Mika Hakkinen tested the DTM
Mercedes... in a West McLaren livery. "I have already watched a couple of
DTM events on TV, and I always wanted to drive such a race car myself,"
said Hakkinen. Bernd Schneider was the driving instructor. First, the
German DTM champion drove the car for eight laps with Mika in the
passenger seat to show the Finn the features of the 450bhp touring car.
Then the champions changed seats and Mika chauffeured Bernd for
another 8 laps around the Brno circuit. "I was impressed by how quickly
Mika adapted to the driving style the CLK-DTM requires. He has an
incredible feeling for the car," said Schneider. The highlight for Hakkinen
was to drive the West McLaren livery car. He completed then 31 laps. "A
great experience," he said.
