electric seats

Just wondering if anybody suffered from their electric seats failing?

I just tilted my passenger seat forward to let someone into the rear and the base didn’t return to its original position.

The seat rake works but the forward\back position is locked into position.

If I press the button to move it back I can hear a 'click' which sounds like the relay activating, so I guess power is getting to it.

Any ideas?? Help!!!

There is a fuse in the trunk, I had the same problem. Just check the fuses not sure which one of the 8 but they are definately in the trunk. Try it and let me know. Good Luck

The passenger side lift handle on my car sticks in the up position sometimes, The seat goes forward when the handle is lifted and the seat back is pushed forward, but does not return to position when the seat back is put back. This seems to happen because the handle sticks in the up position.

"when i lift the handle nothing happens"....care to elaborate?....meaning you wish the seat to rise up and down?

I think he means, that when he lifts the handle and tilts the seat-back forward he's expecting the whole seat to slide forward. Just lifiting the seat handle doesn't do anything. Without tilting the seat-back the handle should just return to it's resting position (down) all by itself.

...Or he meant something else.

Thats what I'm talking about. When I lift the handle and push the seat back forward nothing happens. It used to make the seat move forward so that people could get out of the back. Now nothing happens. But I do hear some type of sound.

Same problem just happened with me yesterday. I lifted the handle to put the seat forward to let someone in and my seat moved forward. When I put the seat in its normal position, it didn't slide back. So when I pressed the button nothing happened. It doesn't move forward and it doesn't move backward. All other parts of the seat move.

Is it also the fuse?

Hi all,
I'm having the same problem, passenger seat not working, but do hear a click when moving the adjustment button. Checked the fuses, but seem OK. Any other ideas? Did you have to change the controller box?

turns out the electric motor has to be changed

I took my car to the dealer. A cable was marred. They fixed it and the seat worked again, but blew the fuses in a short while of use, so the electric motor the moves the seat will have to be replaced. Don't know the price yet, but as soon as they give me a quotation I'll you guys know.

Meanwhile, I have to use my car with a no working seat

got the quotation for changing the electric motor

I thought it would much more expensive, but its US$110 plus labour (US$80).
It's been backordered and will take two weeks to arrive.

If you are still having trouble with your seats, check this. My dealer told me that with use the motor overloads and blows the fuse, or simply dies.

Good luck!

I have replaced 3 fuses in the last month and yesterday the seat would not move forward when letting passengers into the back seat. Since I still have it under warranty, I went to service. They found 2 crumpled coke cans stuck in the track. They laughed but said it would have cost me $$$ if it was not still under warranty. Moral to story...be sure to check in all the nooks and cranies under the seat before going.

Hey, nice car. I was noticing in your equip list that you have the illuminated door sills. Did you install these as a DIY project or did a shop do it for you?

I got them from "for my mercedes" web site. They have a tutorial on how to install. The only change in step #7 is to put a cutout in the ridge that sticks up(so that the wire doesn't get crimped running over it). Do a search for "door sills" in this forum and you will get a lot of info.

I ended up replacing my seat motor. If you keep blowing your fuse, its time to replace the seat motor. It cost me $128.00 from the dealer. I put it in myself (only 45 minutes). Very easy anyone can do it.

Dimit, can you please teatch me how to buy the motor and how do you install it? Thank you every much.

And by the way, I also noticed the handel works weirdly. When I lift it, it doesn't fix on the top, it just falls down to the original position. Is it still caused by the failed motor? Or actually this is another problem about the handle control unit?

ok, driver's seat only can move in all directions except back and forth.

questions:
how can I tell if it's the power seat switch or the motor?
dealer said sometimes the switch contacts get corroded and either can be taken apart to be cleaned or get a new one for $100.

as for motor, is there only ONE motor that controls all the functions (up, down, back, forth, recline, etc)?

thanks,

PS: checked the fues it's ok.

Have you checked the fuses in the trunk??? If the fuse in the trunk is fine, then it is definately the motor. There are 3 motors under the seat. you need to replace the middle one. It controls the for and aft. Just go to the dealer and tell them you need the motor. It's about $120.00. Then put it in. Simple.
