NEED HELP NOW! Ash or black top?

OK, I'm going to the dealer in 3 hrs and he just told me that the same identical car as mine (silver CLK 320 Cab) came in today, but with an ash top instead of a black top.

Need help NOW guys... also, which has a higher resale value? I know ash is rarer and blends in better with the silver, but conversely a black top is more popular...

I myself am fairly impartial, so I'll let the resale value decide.

HELP! FAST!

Thx

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
Black for the $10,000 extra you pay for a cabriolet to differentiate from coupe.

Y'know, it would have been SUCH an easy choice if it hadn't been for your feedback

I'm just thinking resale value... that aside, I'm differentiating that CAB from all other CABS... that's gotta be worth something, no?

Black top for me... easy choice .. more...

Here is why?

Silver Cab with Ash top looks very wierd. It doesn't have same shade of silver and just doesn't look right.

I have black top on mine, it looks beautiful and look like a cabriolet.

Actually resale value is the same for black and Ash tops. And it is easier to sell with balck top from what I have learned from previous convertibles.

Here is my car... Take a look at it...

2001 CLK 320 convertible
Colors

Silver with ash is imho a girl color combo, silver with black is for the boys.

Just my 2 cents. I see too damn many old ladies in these cars with the license plate GMAS CLK or SXYGDMA. Please go with the black.

Buy it to drive, not to resell. Life is too short.

Trust me on this one.

Black matches better with silver CLK, the ash one looks strange I think.

RezaH,

Where did you get those little screw things (don't know what they are called) for your front bumber? I took away my license plate and the 4 holes don't seem very appealing.

what the hell? girl color combo? it's one thing to not like it, but another think to say it's a girl color combo. what is it that makes it such?

anyways, I have to agree with everyone and disagree with my old opinion. i saw a silver/ash and it does look funny. get the black. the ash does look good on white, though.

Too late, got the silver/ash, and I like it - nobody else has it, and EVERY CLK you see in LA is silver/blk.

I'm not a girl either.

Sorry to see you lose sooo much in depreciation because of the lack of contrast and differentiation from coupe.

Daman, you are a contrarian!

How did you do on the MSRP? Options? & other details you care to share?

Sarcasm, right? (wait, less depreciation is good, isn't it?)

Man, I'm tired... 3.5 hours at the dealer... got cramps from all the signing... will post details about the car when I take delivery Thu along with pics, too tired and lazy now

I hate car dealers.

Good decision! The silver/ash is FLY! If you want to differentiate yourself from a coupe... let the top down!

Congratulations.

I look forward to seeing it.

Sorlo... Screws on the front bumper....

are the same screws that I had on the plates before...

I just touched it up with the Silver Touch up paint to match the body color and they actaully look better than leaving it empty holes in the bumper.

Good luck..

Oh... Paint the screws before putting on the car, you don't want extra paint on the bumpers.

Thanks RezaH. Seems like you did a great job on yours, they look really neat. Did you get the touch up paint from MB? How much does it cost? Thanks in advance.

Have fun stressing over keeping an almost white top clean. Ash will be the perfect canvas for showing off road grime, grease, dirty fingerprints, bird droppings, water stains.

Imagine wearing a white suite every day. Now imagine wearing it everyday outside. How clean do you think its going to stay. I have an ash interior that I am very careful with and it gets marks on it all the time.

And your wrong. A lot of people have the silver/ash combo. However all the people I have seen have been women :p

I like the ash top. I think a silver car with a black top looks like a bad hairpiece. That's just my opinion though, which means jack.

Same here, women with patinum hair - all perfectly blended/co-ordinated.

We sure have a lot of seagulls here as well. The pelican poop eats right through the soft top. Their stomach acids destroy fishing hooks!!

Oh well...

Colour choices are a funny thing. I chose the Quartz Blue body and the blue top was the recommended colour, but I got the black top and I'm glad I did it looks great, the blue top looks kind of weird to me. This colour combination seems to attract all the right kind of attention.

You are so right. Also all the chicks that have silver/ash tops also wear bracelts with very big beads or they all have that bracelett from Tiffany's that is like a choker with a heart pendant dangling on it. Too funny.

DaMan, the ash top will be good, it won't clash with too many of your dresses

Seagull poop! We didn't even mention tree sap!! The stuff from a Eucalyptus is completely permanent staining. It got on my leather and I had to have it re dyed! WHat about when the top is dusty and then you get raindrops and then the raindrops dry, leaving those lovely dirty waterspots all over your top.

What about when the top is dusty and then you get raindrops and then the raindrops dry, leaving those lovely dirty waterspots all over your top.
only Waterspots??

Here in S. Florida we have waterspouts which carry nautical artifacts from sea urchins, portuguese man-of-war, barracudas; everything just short of the Spanish Armada.

A coupe is like a helmet, a save heaven, a shelter - it protects me.
