Engine Problem Need Help!

Hello fellas,
I have a problem, maybe some of you guys have been through this before. My engine rocks side to side when in "P" reving to 4000 rpm and up (every time!). It sounds like it's not getting enough air through the MAF. I have been through this befor last year. However, during that time I still have my warranty. Problem was fixed by the dealer and they said the caused was the MAF which they replaced. Now it's doing it again!!! Glad I kept records of my problems when I had the warranty. Looked at the records from last year with the same problem and on the record paper, dealer stated that MAF was the cause of it. They changed it and problem fixed.

Now I just bought a brand new MAF and replaced it my self and the problem is still the same!! What the F!!!! Any ideas guys? It was the exact same problem when I had the warranty!

Thanks for helping

W203 slightly modified
Without a diagnostic reading you have no hope of getting near the problem let alone resetting the errors codes.

You need to reset the codes to achieve a steady state .... without that reset you cant make a result.

DO NOT unhook the battery. Only silly people do that.

When you rev the engine that high in Park, it will not go all the way to the red-line fuel cutoff point (typically between 3,500 to 4,000 like you've experienced). This is to protect the engine from damage - it will cut in sooner - I've read previous posts about this in the past. When in gear, the fuel cut off will kick in around 6,100 - 6,200 rpm, give or take a little.

Some folks commented that the engine would sputter or act like its cutting out. If you do that enough, it will set a trouble code because it sees the transmission isn't in a forward or reverse gear and no speed sensor signal. In some instances, the trouble code might have to be cleared to restore normal operation.

Revving an unloaded engine up that high isn't good for it.

I don't usually rev the car in park. The last time I road this car was about 4 months ago. I took the car to a Chevron hand free wash and that's when it happen. Maybe the water pressure short circuited something...I don't know. After that washed I have not driven it for 4 months. So couple weeks ago I decided to warm the car up for 15 minutes and after that I revved to 4000 rpm and that's when it started to sputter. Well if the error codes need to be reset or the spark plugs is also the problem I'll tried to fix those problem first befor take it to my mechanic. I appreciate all comments and again I thank you guy.

Just curious but how much did the MAF cost you? Was it a dealer part?

Did this problem happen on your CLS 500? Your v-list says you sold your CLK!

I got the Air Mass Sensor for $264.00 from MercedesParts.com, that's half the price of the dealer. The site was suggested from guys in this forum. Sorry about the miscommunication. I gave my ClK430 to my brother-in-law and I was fixing the problem for him. My ClS 500 runs perfectly.
