I dont think a 19x9 will fit on the front without rubbing and a 19x10.5 is probably possible depending on tire size, i have 20x9.5 on mine and there is plenty of room for a wider wheel.

Or maybe I should just stick with 8.5 and 10 with a super cool offset.

Widest I've seen in the rear is 10". But, I suppose anything is possible, given enough time and money. Everything will depend on the offset, use of spacers and whether or not your fenders have been rolled.

Thanks Chappy, I will most likely play it safe on this one and go with the 10's.

What about 18s?

Can 18X8 (on the front) and 18X8.5 (on the back) rims fit a CLK with no modification?

Heck yeah, no problem at all. The car could be slammed to the ground and you would have no problem.

Thanks Ghost.
So I could get a set of 18" rims now and slam later (I need new tires, so thats why I'm asking)? How much does a H&R spring job run to do the slam?
I love the way CLK22's whip looks on his thread 'got my 19X19.5's rear rims installed'.

Tirerack is pretty good... I bought a set from them before. They ship fast and they are pretty cheap too...

THe H&R probably would cost you $200-250 and another couple hundreds for the labor. Might want to do the shocks too if you are lowering your car, otherwise, it would wear out very fast...

You can get your springs and shocks from the tirerack as well. If you are going to do both you might as well do them at the same time.

How much of a drop are you looking for?

Whodat - im running nitto extreme 555's right now. before this set i had pirelli p-zeros that i bought from tirerack (only time ever purchasing from there) and they came like the next day. they got drop shipped to my wheel shop so i dont think i had to pay shipping and i also got that road hazard program they offer where they replace any of the tires for whatever reason (pothole, nail, glass, etc.)

Ghostrider - im running 265's in the rear right now but am trying to figure out how to get 275's cause im not into the stretched look and thats what 265's on 10" wide rims looks like (well at least with the nittos)

Between 1 and 2 inches. I was thinking about 18's (up from stock 17s) with a slight drop. If I do shocks, it would be done all at the same time. Which won't be right now but it don't hurt to start thinkin ahead! THANKS for all your help and advice!

Can you guys sanity check my tire/rim estimations? If I go 18, (using the 1 upsize formula):
For the rear, OE is 245/40 17
Should I be looking at 255/35 18 tires or 255/30 18? What size rim would go on these (is 18X8.5 correct)?
For the front, OE is 225/45 17
Should I be looking at 235/40 18 tires or 235/35 18? What size rim would go on these (is 18X8 correct)?
Could I do this NOW and drop it and inch later?

The best thing to do is go to www.tirerack.com and pick your vehicle and put the size rims that you are thinking about on the car. Then you can find out the optimal tire size for that size of wheel.

As a matter of fact with 18x8 they suggest a 225/40 18 and for 18x8.5 it should 255/35 18 and you can use that same tire size for 18x9.

Oh, DUH! My bad! Sorry to bother ya'll with such simple questions! I'll take my like a man!

I am starting to understand it more though. It looks like a 255 tire will fit a 8.5OR a 9" rim. 9" would be nice n fat!

Most people go with 19x8.5 front and 19x9.5 rear with 235/35/19 up front and 265/30/19 in the rear. Some opt for 10" in the back which is what Im getting next.

Well I was only going to do 18s since it looks like I can do that without any mods to the suspension. However, companies seem to have a lot more 19" models than 18"s. I guess I should be able to do 18 X 9.5 for 265's. 18 X 8.5 for 255's. Interesting.
Now I need to start understanding this offset and spacer thing....
