Black Birdseye Maple for CLK

I am considering going to carbon fiber and I currently have Black birdseye maple on my CLK430.

What is the going rate for the black birdseye as I am sure, many want to upgrade their trim on older models to the black maple.

Any approx. value amounts would be appreciated.

Thanks

How does one remove the Black birdseye maple?

Sounds like a very labor-intensive effort for an expert!

Otherwise, the Black birdseye maple might transform into black charcoal splinters.

Comments appreciated. tnx

Too me as well.

How thick is the Carbon Fiber material?

Reason I ask, is if its thin enough, you might not have to remove the existing Black Birdseye Maple trim ... and just attatch the Carbon Fiber on over it.

maple

I don't know anything about the removal process or anything.

I just heard that I can get a fair amount of my maple.

Of course, if it can be taken off with no damage that is.

It's pretty easy to remove. For the door pieces, the doors must be opened up, and then you pop it out from the inside. For the center console (near stick) you can actually pull it out. And for the control panel (air-conditioning etc) you use the radio keys to unlock it. For the piece running across the dash: you take a thin plastic wedge, carefully slide it in on the far right end (don't scratch anything), use it as a lever to pop the right side forward. There is one hook that will pop out, and then you slide the whole piece out to the right (open the door to make room).

The Evosport Carbon Fiber pieces (available soon) will be replacements for whatever material you currently have. It will be of equal thickness, size, and shape.

new carbon fiber

i would wait for this new carbon fiber comming out. the old style is very thin. you cant put that over the existing maple wood. i do agree with mach 430. it could be easy to remove. i would have somebody who does do it remove it . putting the new wood on sometimes is tricky. you need the heat gun to apply the new wood.

I don't think you need a heat gun, the pieces fit and snap into place.

No, they fit into place as well. The radio pieces lock in with the same key that locks the radio into place. (see a ____ on each side towards the bottom, that's where the key goes). I asked the shop foreman about this before, because I didn't want to break my wood.

Also, have any of you removed your wood near the stick in order to clean all the junk out? It's really easy. Open your cupholder a little, so that you can get your hand underneath the wood (by window buttons). With a little pressure, pop the wood up. It's solid, so unless you're a complete tool, it won't break. From there you can get all the crap out that lines the edges (I also found a nickel once).

MB pieces (wood) aren't glued in. They're all complete pieces, about 1/3" thick.

Before popping the wood around the gear lever, remove the black plastic bit around the actual gear lever plate, use your finger nails under it and it pops straight up - then open the cup-holder compartment and its easy to pull up the whole piece with all the switches attached.

The MB wood is bonded to aluminium pieces that hold the switches in. To remove the bit with the airconditioning controls, remove the aircon controls using the same keys that remove the radio, then lever the whole thing up from the bottom edge with something plastic (MB have a long plastic wedge to remove things like this)
