does anybody know what the status of evosports intake for the CLK is? i'm debating about whether just to get filters in the mean time or just wait for the intake.....
mach430 or brad....any prelim numbers about performance or price?
thanks guys

I'm waiting for their kit myself. I made my own in the mean time just to hear it hahaha. The stock air box is just insanely hot.... and it seems like a waste of time to put 2 k&n filters on there with a cost of about $100 for 2 filters. I wish they had theirs available right now!!!!

Metal does get hot, but when it is not sitting on top of the engine block, it wont warm up nearly as fast. Also the continuous cold air running through it will keep it cool. The plastic factory airbox gets so hot because the heat from the engine rises straight to the airbox, making all air that enters the engine hot. Because the pipe passes on the side of the engine, i would assume it stays relatively cool in comparison to the factory airbox.

My intake stays about 30(guessing) degrees cooler than the stock airbox. My cone filter is located next to the fog light on the left side, so I'm getting the coolest air possible at all times. Yes the pipe would get warm if it was as close to the engine block as the factory intake is, but it isn't.
Do this drive around in your car for 20 minutes then pop off one of the intake tubes and feel inside the stock airbox, it is smoking in there!!! hahaha :p
That was my whole purpose for putting on the intake and getting the coolest air I could!!!

The cone filter I have is a MSDS cone filter I had it on a porsche(kept the filter). The piping is actually designed for a honda accord intake kit, I was in my local auto-zone looking at parts and saw that the design of the aluminumpiping would work pretty good so I picked it up pretty cheap. I put the cone filter in that kit on my Ml320 hahaha. The bottom half of the piping is regular PVC.
The problem is that I think the intake(top half) piping is to small to get any real gains. I'm not losing horsepower since I'm getting cold air, but I really need larger piping to maximize the gains. So until the evosport intake comes out I'll keep this on since it sounds awesome!!! The cone filter makes the car sounds really really really good!!

Well after looking at it I think it would be just about as easy to make the whole thing out of PVC, then paint the PVC as I did. But that kit was for a 96-97 accord I believe. You can check it out if you have an auto-zone nearby. Everything thing else can be bought at a hardware store as long as you know what your looking for.

Have you done a before & after dyno run w/ your custom air intake??? I had a similar CAI set-up 3" alum. mandrel bend tubing w/ thermo wrap & AEM air bypass valve & K&N air charger filter on my E430; and after dyno'd at Evosport to my surprise I loss approx. 20 HP...so Vadim@Evosport had installed the factory air box & my HP & TQ jump back to were it should be. With the installation of Evosport's pulley kit & Hi Flow Manifold the car now flies...

We are still working on the development of our intake system. I do not have a set release date, but I would anticipate before the end of the year. A properly designed intake takes time, and we want to be sure that our final product can deliver to its full potential. I will post more as information becomes available.
In the meantime, our underdrive pulley kits are now available. This is an easy 15HP upgrade for any Mercedes from 1998 on. Currently, they are on sale for an introductory price of $499, $100 off retail. Feel free to call or email me for details.
Thanks
Ben

Big difference here mine is a 430, so the maf is right on the back of the block. However on my 2001 ML-320 I have a setup identical to yours. Sorry for the confusion..... Making an intake for a 320 is extremely easy to do, not so on a 430 sine the MAF is on the rear of the engine.

PS: I ordered the UD pulleys from Machh430 yesterday(I'll be gone for a week, but I'll put them on asap). Those will helps out I'm sure!!!

You'll have to wait and see We're currently experimenting with different setups, in order to find the optimum for performance and driveability. If you're looking for HP now, get the Underdrive pulleys. You'll get simliar power for about half the price.
Thanks

if intake temp is the key issue - why not reduce underbonnet temp?
has anyone tried exhaust wrap around the manifolds and putting a heat shield under the standard airbox.... this would drop the intake temp whilst retaining the airflow of the standard air box....which i assume is pretty good co it has dual ram pipes and nobody has tried too hard to replace it?
plus would cost sweet f.a. compared with $1000 carbon air boxes...
