Ouch, seat warmer is burning my A$$

I've got to go to the dealer to get my seat replaced. I don't know what caused this, but my seat warmer now gets very hot on the lower left, and I have to turn it off before it burns too much. Being that I have a bad back (but the accident that caused it also put me in my CLK), I'm always using the seat warmers. I think that some of the cushioning in the seat must have moved, now creating contact between the seat lining and the warming device itself. I even smell burning sometimes (Hope it's not me).

Mine too...

I thought it was normal for a while, until other day it started smelling like something burning. So I turned the heated seats OFF.

I have an appointment with dealer the take the car in to check it out.

You must have the older and no-longer popular gas-powered open-flame seat warmer... :p

I personally prefer the charcoal grill to match the charcoal interior.

Kidding aside, I only tried this feature once and saw no problems. Can't imagine that I'll be using it a lot along with the rear window defroster in S. Florida.

Additionally, heat is NOT going to be friendly to the leather and over time; it will cause pre-mature deterioration/cracking.

Talking

I would suggest at least wearing undergarments if not pants or shorts when using the seat heater. definitely makes for a less scolding experience.

Advice taken, maybe I won't have to go the dealers now.

Yeah u should be ok if you dont drive your car in the nude. I love the seatwarmers, especially up in Boston wheres its freezing. First thing I turn on the the morning while my car is warming up is the seat warmers. Only if the steering wheels were heated.

Check your window sticker...

I would recomend checking your window sticker to make sure the option on the seats is only the seat warmer for $695 and not the seat warmer / barb-e-q grill for $895.

Maybe the dealer through in this option but I would check if I were you.

Just remember, single heat mode for slow cooking meats, double heat for the steaks.

Regarding the effect of seat heating units on leather, I must say I've had heaters in three different cars (BMW 540, Audi A8, MB) and have never seen any adverse effect even though I use the heaters as much as 40-50% of the year.
If it's good leather, and if it's cared for, there won't be any evident 'damage' over a period of sevral years.
