DIY Shift Gate Removal?
I was doing some detailing around the shift gate the other day. If you are looking down at the plastic plate that has the Shifter positions (houses W/S button) it reads as follows;
P
R
-D+
just beneath the -D+ the plastic plate ends and there is a small semi-circular cover of some sort......well while cleaning I must have pushed it in / down because now I can sorta see down into the interworkings, lights, etc.
Anyone know why this is there? I assume its for some sort of tool to remove the shift gate cover?
Anyway just looking to pop that little semi-circular cover back up into place.
Thanks.

While you are it, it might also be a good idea to put some sort of protective covering over the electronics near the shifter in the event that anything gets spilled on it in the future. Good insurance anyway from all the accidents I have heard of on the forum...

It just pops out. It's tight and feels like you're going to break something when you remove it. I used a rigid putty knife that I wrapped the sharp edges with duct tape to pry it out.
