The mesh grills look pretty sweet. And the W209 front end looks great.
I took a close look at the lower portion of my front end and notice that it there is allot of stuff in the way. The single horzontal piece that runs between the fog lights has several vertical mounting points. Anybody going to try putting the mess in? I would really like to see how you do it. How much needs to be removed and how your going to mount the mesh. If it's not to tuff I'd like have it done.

Tim,

Hey man, i am going to put in the mesh grill just to see how it looks, i may keep it i may not. Its so cheap i dont mind trying it out. Im not sure how im going to attach the mesh in there yet, but im sure ill figure something out. as far as the vertical bars that hold the horizontal piece, im just going to put the mesh in front of those. While it may show through a bit, i think from more than a couple feet away it wont be noticable. If i decide to keep the mesh, ill take off the mesh and tape up the bars black with electrical tape or something just as a temporary thing so i can always change it back. As soon as i get it done i will post pics along with the new AMG hood emblem compliments of SL55AMG. Any suggestions from you guys on how i should attach the mesh, id rather not glue it until i am sure its what i want. Thanks in advance.

Eric

There are a few mounting points that look interesting on my CLK55 AMG. You might try velcro as a starter. That way you can easily adjust it. Maybe double sided tape? Both will be a pain, because the mesh doesn't give you allot of surface area.
I was thinking about putting it behind the horizontal piece?
If you're going to put it in front of the Horizontal piece maybe you could use black tape to cover the piece? Just a thought.
Keep us informend, and good luck.

i think im just going to take the horizontal piece out, tape up the vertical pieces black and use 3M two sided tape and attach to the vertical pieces and whatever else i need to do until i feel it is secure.

To all of you that wanted to try and make your own Wire Mesh grills. I have the material. It’s Stainless Steel Wire mesh 3/16 spacing using 1/32 wire (Just an estimate).
I can get you any size up to 48" wide.
Minimum width is 6 inches. It is very expensive. For a CLK you will need a piece 6 x 48 inches.
It costs $100.00 plus shipping.
If you want a smaller piece I will have to cut them, the price is $25.00 for a ½ square foot.
(6x12 inches) Plus shipping.
E-mail me if you’re interested.

Timster: Is your mesh wire anymore special than those other members are getting for like <$5 a yard?

$100 is pretty steep..

Don't know what the others are putting on there car? This is Stainless Steel. It looks really nice. (This is not the wire mesh found at Home Depot, that they use for rain gutters) I to think it's over priced, but the place I got it from is the only place I could find.
If I could of found it cheaper I would of bought it.

So what happened with the wire mesh grill to replace the horizontal bar. Mine fell out and I haven't replaced it yet.
