Door/Window problem
I think I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, 'cause stuff just ain't right today.....My driver's side door just swing open, instead of stopping half way, as it is supposed to...I was told this morning by the dealer that this is a "door check" and that the part runs about $80 + 3 hrs labor.
When I get to work and roll down my window, it only goes half way then I hear a loud popping noice---luckily it goes back up, but the dealer said that it may be trouble and that I shouldn't roll it back down (or it may not come back up) or even worse, my glass could shatter. So....my question is "how much damage am I looking at?" Anyone else had this particular issue and could the two be related?
Thanks guys.....I lost my appetite after this morning's events....

I had the same problem, the door stop broke and had the same problem with the window, there are 3 bolts that holds the door stop in place and probably the one that holds it behind the door covering fell off and caused it the door check to break at the door brackets just behind the 2 bolts that you can see when you open the door.
I replaced it , it took me around 45 minutes. I ordered the new door stop
on line I believe it cost around $45 dollars.
Be careful do not roll your window down it might get caught on the broken door stop and break.
You can search the forum in how to removed the door paneling, it is not that hard.
Anyway hope this helps.

Ok...I looked up how to remove the door panel...most instructions state that the window should be down at the time you perform these actions...How am I to get the window down prior to starting, since I may risk breaking the glass by putting it down? Or ??
THANKS GUYS...

I rolled the window down as my last step making sure the door check was out of the way after I removed the 2 bolts that attach the door check to the frame of the car.
You can actually see the door check location when you open the door close to the 2 bolts that you can see, again be careful not to force the window down and don’t get your fingers caught.
If you are not too mechanical inclined, I would suggest buying the part and taking it to a good mechanic, they should not charge you more than 1 to 1.5hours labor.
Hope this helps.
did u have any "issues" with the window/seat controls and speaker in the door panel? I have read how it may be tricky to remove the panel w/ those components in the door....that was one of the reasons I unsure...
Hell, I'm off until Wednesday, so it could be a project...
No problems at all with the speakers, and I think the seat controls have a plug.
Take your time, I have done it a couple times, the first time to upgrade my speakers, the second for the door check. Make sure you have all your tools, specially the one that you need to remove the bolts that attach the door check to the car frame.
Remember take your time.
Have you ask an independent shop for an estimate?
Anyway ask for a quote from another shop. Just my 2 cents.

so I just told them that I won't be able to do that...even though he offered a loaner, which makes no sense, b/c its a 1.5-2 hr job AND nothing is free, so I would be indirectly paying for the free loaner through labor charges.....Yes, actually I called my independent and he won't be able to get to me until 1/11, but he is usually fair....he said I can even wait for the job to be done...so I guess, I will drive around w/ the retarded window until then...no late night drive through @ Wendys for me...

Thanks guys...for all of your help...Have a Happy New Year and PLEASE be safe...no drinking and driving, speeding, and all of that other stuff!!
