1. Go to court, maybe the cop won't show.
2. Overpay the ticket by at least five bucks. In Florida, if you do, they will attempt to send you a check in the mail for the difference that you over paid for. Just throw it away. This keeps a balance on the ticket and thus keeps the ticket "open", but you are paid up in full so there is no danger of you getting a warrant. I've done this before and that ticket never showed up on my insurance...

Claiming a faulty speedo makes about as much sense as wearing Speedos to court (not a very pretty mental picture). Why would the court believe you?

If you say you've done it and it worked then I can't really doubt you but otherwise this is pretty much known as an urban tale. I've heard this story over and over and never once has it actually been true.

That may work in Florida, but not in California. Here are two reasons why: (1) First, a refund? Here in California? LOL! According to section 16302.1 of the State code, the state simply keeps the overage. (2) The People's Republic of California's assigns points against driving records as soon as the driver is convicted of an offense. Payment is a seperate transaction.

I dont know how other states work, but in MD, I have no DMV points on my license, but I have two speeding tickets (I got probation on both). My insurance went up about $60 a month, just because I got pulled over. The insurance companies here assess their own points (based on pleading guilty and getting probabtion), and said they dont care what the DMV has on file. It makes no sense to me.

Ticket Advice

Sorry to hear about your bad luck dude. My advice to you is that if you have not received any other tickets in the last year or so (you state's law may be different) but you may be eligible for traffic school. Sure it costs $, but you can complete it eiother online in the convenience of your home or office or go on the weekend and avoid any points on your license/insurance rate hikes. Just my $.02.

Good luck Bro!

I think some people here should lighten up, don't take life so seriously. The reason I waved the BS flag is because I've also heard this story about 3 years ago on the Hondahookup forum. I don't want anyone to loose sleep over my comments. And I do have better things to do than argue on the forum. Anyways as for the story it goes something like this... Guy was driving down the highway doing twice the limit when a cop tried pulling him over, then there are details that are not important at the moment. So a guy gets off the highway and finally drives into a Wal-Mart parking lot and parks his car. He got out of the car and tried walking into the store when a cop pulled up asking him if it is his vehicle. The driver confirmed that it was in fact his vehicle and the cop asked him why he didn't pull over when he was asked to. The driver started denying the whole thing when the cop started to walk around his vehicle. He placed his hand on the hood of the car and after realizing that the hood was cold let the guy go and went on searching for the red MR2 he was chasing earlier. The point of the story is that something like this would never happen (maybe in theory) but it's not practical because there are a lot of situational and legal issues associated with this story.
