Droptop208 has his 2ndary cats removed as well as the resonator it sounds fuken sick. Do it. But take out the 2ndary cats also for that extra note that will really make you happy.

seems like i shouldnt take out the secondary cats accordin to what i read in the resonator threads...i believe droptop208 also got a quad exhaust setup which probably aids in that sound....i dont think i wanna fk wit the cats unless i c its safe..? ....i may get that ecutout that freddy has too sometime down the road as well...

In general would the removal of the resonator and the 2nd cats give any additional hp? I know someone said that the removal of the res wouldn't do much if any, but what about the cats? By removing all of that wouldn't you increase exhaust flow?

got rid of the res and love the sound not really louder per say but rather deeper. it also drops about 18 lbs of the car = 1hp

Removing cats should give you a little horsepower.

I think I'm goign to delete that huge resonator on th CLK55. Just need to find a y pipe that size. I hope it doesnt get toooo loud

i took the resonator off on my 99 m3 and it sounded horrible with the stock exhaust..

Everyone with a CLK430 reports back minimal change, just a bit deeper tone.

I think im gonna remove my resonator, as I want a bit more exhaust note.

Anybody know what size y-pipe is needed to delete the CLK55 resonator? The CLK55 has 2 inlet pipes and one outlet for the resonator. If someone can save me the hassle of getting under the car to measure I would appreciate it.

BB, that's mbenzman's CLK55 cabrio...all his changes are documented on the "Project Chrome Dome" thread. I swore he had ripped out the resonator and cats but he said no.

Mine sounds like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeJJ32Aw0is
I really need to get a WOT run on vid. I'm afraid after I get the resonator delete the car will be too loud. We will see.

He's got the blower on and it's like riding a mechanical bull just before it throws you off. Even with the Quaife - there's no hope of hooking up in the first two gears.

Downright SCARY.

I did a modified road course "track day" two weeks ago and my tires are shot....AGAIN lol.

It's been running, I drive it everyday, mostly in winter mode, top down last night even.
That track day was last year prior to the blower install. No exhaust work has been done to the car, yet!

You guys and your 55s.... I hate you.

I keed I keed!

Nah but really, Ahmed do the resonator delete, it's really not that much louder, just a deeper tone, if you want loud, chop off the mufflers.

To the vids posted, BB's car(s) are always sick, and mbenzman that was your CLK on the track? Wow that sounded siick!

Take it to the dragstrip yet? How much boost is it seeing? I may need you to build me one lol

Thanks guys. I will do the resonator delete and make sure to get a WOT blast on vid and post it up. I just need to find out what size y pipe I need. Then change the MAF (I forgot how expensive these stupid things were, I have the part but I am waiting for better weather to replace it) and go to a friends house and do some welding.

I want a different i/c on there before I do anything serious, but it's seeing about 14 pounds if you were to try wot, most of the time part throttle is more than too much.
I get kicks out of accelerating the car with only part throttle in second (winter shift mode) and having the tires (275's with a quaife differential) break loose on the roll.
My best 0-60 so far is 4.4 sec. in a second gear start ("W" mode) and part throttle laying gradually more adding throttle as speed increases. My worst 0-60's are when trying to start in first gear.
Here's something to buck the normal thinking of the bench racers, I am considering a 2.24 rear gear swap to try and hook this puppy up. It would feel like a being lauched from a slingshot if I did.

14PSI?!?!?!?!??! I dream of one day seeing that much boost on my car, it would be in the 10's for sure. I would invest in some beefier axles with that much power! Good luck with the project and put me down as #1 on the list after you get everything sorted out.

Why not a 3.07, because that would only "feel" better, but would be farther from getting it done, first gear is a joke already, that gear might force me to have to start out in third, and there's no switch in the car for that.A 2.24 may give me my 1st gear back and a lot of side benifits as well, i.e. gas mileage, less wear, it has the torque to handle it.
