Steering Column "Pop"

Has anyone else ever experienced an ocassionally "pop" coming from the steering wheel column shortly after starting the car up and turning the wheel? Im not talking about suspension "pops" like from ball joints, but a single pop noise that comes from the steering column itself. It doesnt happen all the time, and I dont notice any steering difference before or after the "pop"...I just wonder if anyone else has had this problem, and if they had it fixed?

I sure have! But it's only right after startup and only if I crank the wheel hard. Scared me to death. My mechanics tell me that there's nothing wrong under there, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I just bought this car last week and after discovering that I have pretty much *all* of the common failures (clock, pass. seat motor, etc.), I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall... If you figure anything out, I'd love to hear about it.
