Shock bump stop replacment issue

Guys, I heard a knocking sound from the front nearside and when I investigated, the rubber stop that sits on the shock has almost disintegrated. This is the stop that is on the shock but within the wheel compartment not on the top where it feeds through and into the engine bay.

I assume it was due to bad fitting by the mechanic when my Kleemann shocks were fitted a few months ago.

However, assuming I can get a rubber stop tomorrow, how easy is it to fit bearing in mind I need to pull the shock back down into the wheel compartment to get it on and then feed the top of the shock back up and into the engine bay?

Do I need to get a garage to do it?

Thanks guys.

Are you referring to the bump stop that came with your new shocks, or do you mean the small rubber bushing that is placed on top of the metal disc, but underneath the shock mount? If that is the piece, it is a common problem. It should cost about $1.25 from the dealer to replace. Depending on your skill, replacing the part may or may not be difficult. You would need to be able to pull out the old shock, put the new piece on, and put everything back as you found it.

Ben, you got it right. I'll give it a go myself first.

Thanks.

Ok, I replaced the lower bushing which was completely split.

However, how far do I compress the top bushing from within the engine bay? I can't simply check the other side as I am sure that is wrong.

One thing further, due to the increased force exerted on these bushings due to the shock and spring modifications we make, does anyone know if there is a different bushing available than a stock MB bushing.

Ben, you mention this as a common problem!

Thanks guys.

Jonathan.
