2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
To mod or not to mod? WHY MOD?

Curious to hear what drives CLK owners to do extensive mods.

For myself, I am over the mod fever, which I channeled towards my C5 Corvette. This 2002 CLK 55 I am keeping pure...well almost.

I added the blue laurel MB center caps to the AMG wheels, and an AMG logo from a key chain (cut off and painted flat black) to the glove compartment handle.

So my intent is to keep this CLK 55 pure.

Where do YOU stand: To mod or not to mod?

Happy New Year!

I'm all for mods. To me, it's about personalizing one's car.

One reason to personalize a 55 is that most of what you paid extra for doesn't show (i.e., the engine, suspension, etc.). Other than the rear badging, a 55 looks just like a 430, so you don't really have an exclusive look. I'm thinking about replacing just the front bumper cover on my 55, as I like the AMG sideskirts and rear valance. For the extra $, AMG should have done something different for the 55 with the ground effects, IMO.

2002 CLK 430 Coupe
I plan on keeping my 430 pure. The AMG skirts, valances and wheels are enough to keep me happy. Oh yeah, there might be small things like the Blue Laurel center caps (Karl, where can I see them?) and the likes, however for the most part the car will remain stock.

My entire automotive life (which began with my first car in 1965) was spent modifying all the cars that I owned and reached a climax with a 5.0 Mustang Coupe that I bought new in 1993 and kept for 7 years. I did all the mechanical mods myself, supercharger, aluminum rear end, ceramic headers, stainless exhaust, etc., etc., etc. I maintained this car as a show piece and received many 1st. place awards for it.

I guess what I am saying is that I fully appreciate the needs, wants and desires of those that wish to modify their cars, and enjoy seeing what others have done, but I have gotten that desire out of my blood. Just maintaing my 430 in spotless condition and enjoying the time spent driving it will satisfy my automotive lust.

Happy New Year to all!

I'm into modding so much that I made it my business. I have to agree with byip25, the CLK55 doesn't need much, except for a set of 19s, springs, shocks, and a Kleemann supercharger (after the warranty expires!).

Seriously Karl, no one is going to rag on you for not wanting to mod out the CLK55. Now if you had a 320 on the other hand, well then....
