How to tell if an AMG.
Hey everyone,
I am interested in a 2000 CLK 320 and the guy who is selling it says he thinks it is an AMG. It has the AMG wheels and emblem and even the metal decal on the dash board and it also says "sport" on the outside modling. My friend saw the engine and he says it doesnt look like an AMG engine though.
My questions is, is there a way for me to tell that it is for certain an AMG?
When I run a car fax on it all I get is....
Year/Make/Model: 2000 MERCEDES-BENZ CLK320
Body Style: COUPE
Engine Type: 3.2L V6 PFI SOHC 18V
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

2000 CLK430
It most certainly, absolutely, legitely and all those other words that end in LY IS NOT AN AMG!! This "guy" is trying his hardest to sell the car but he doesnt have to lie about it. Or maybe he was told that by the guy that sold him the car. Well who knows BUT I do know that if it is a 2000 320 then most definitely it is not. The only car that I can see people get a little confused about is a CLK430 that comes with a 4.3L V8 and all the visual AMG gear like ground effects and rims but that is where the similarities end.
The REAL AMG is a 5.5L engine..this is the only real way to tell the difference visually without running a carfax report. Tell him that it is definitely not an AMG. Sorry man

AMG cars always end in 2 letters, not 3. of course, they can be badged different. But the 320 is the smallest engine option in america. Quite the opposite of an amg.
There is an amg sport package, usually on the clk430 (some people put them on the 320). Comes w/ AMG wheels and bodykit.
However, the 55, as greg said, is a big v8 engine with the same bodykit but slightly larger AMG wheels.

I am sure that there is no CLK 320 AMG, although I own one. Mine is a CLK 320 with the AMG appearance package (bumpers and sideskirts) and AMG wheels. These parts were added by the previous owner. He even placed an AMG badge on the back of the car, which I have to take off. Overall the car looks good, but is no AMG.
