Cold air intake

Trying to put a cold air intake in front of the coolant . I put a 4"pipe and trying to find a pipe that could cross over the engine to the coolant. Also i'm trying to get some stuff to make a air box too. But however one of my fd told me that i could mess up my air mess sensor( i had been replace that a few months ago ). So i hope that anyone in here would help me answer those question and if i change this part will it mess it up ?? Any good example can show us ??this is what I tired b4 ( just for testing the respon ) as the result the intake sounds good and the respon has been increase, but i think i'm only go with the 3.5" pipe only.

haters crazy
I dont mean to be rude, but that has to be the worst intake design i've ever seen. You're not only sucking in hot air from under the hood, but its sitting right on top of the engine! If you like the cone filters at least run 2 of them on either side of the engine (NOT ON TOP) to the FRONT of the car where it can get some cool air.

Yea, i think that's a bad location. It would be great for cold starts, but after the engine warms up, its bad news.

Props on being creative and making your own design; keep us informed

this is just for testing the respon of the air filter , later on i will find a pipe connect to the right side .

How much performance do you estimate the intake alone gives you over the stock intake? Thanks!

Don't know since I dynoed the car as you see it and the estimate was 25-30 horse improvement over the others on the same day. Things also to consider, I have a Quaife differential, larger tires and heavier two piece wheels the CLK55's coupes didn't have. This definitely would show less improvement then actual, but I don't know "exactly" how much impact, so we'll go with the actual figures.
A 430 would show less improvement, but I bet some is available, maybe 7-10 h.p., which on a 430 coupe should be noticible. And it wouldn't be because of the open air filter, but the intake tube vs. the lousey restrictive dual snorkel air box. I'm not married to the open air filter, I'm actually planning to use a modified CLK320 air cleaner box.
You CLK320 guys actually have a hard to improve setup that flows more than enough air for a modified 55 with no restriction at all. The only thing an open air cleaner would do for these is give you more sound.
Any CLK320 guys want to swap their air air box for my open element K&N filter, mass air flow adapter and heat shield?

hmmmm... yeah.. i m gonna have to agree with everyone on how crappy the location is...
plus.. benz engine runs pretty hot, moreso than other cars... and that aluminum pipe, won't it attract more heat? its just a bad design
