Bottem line is you have to bring it to an MB service center if you want to diagnose the problem. These cars are very touchy and have alot going on in them that most ppl who arent trained benz techs have no idea about. I really hope you find out what the issue is. That random slowing down to a stop and not responding **** would scare the bejesus outa me.

Good Luck!

I don't think it would be the fuel pump.

When I had my BMW 740iL, my fuel pump went bad and my car would shake severely and always shut down.

Doesn't hurt to check it out anyway, check your air filters too.

Exclamation ok

If the engine shifts down to the left when i have somebody step on the gas and brake at the same time is it the mounts? and regarding the shaking when it starts to happen i put it into neutral then give it gas it stops the shaking but it keeps coming back when im slowing down to stop (more often now) and yesterday i was coming to a stop then the car just accelarated on its own good thing i was stepping on the gas or else i would have hit the car in front of me.

Have you tried a new crank position sensor?

Sounds like a motor mount. I had all those symptoms and replaced the motor mount. Problem solved!

Take your car to the shop.

i have the same issues with shaking, except when my car heats all the way up to 90, it usually tends to stop vibrating.

03 CLK 430 Convertible "silkie" (sold), 2010 E350 Sport Sedan (graveyard), new wheels coming soon...
I had this shaking problem... I did the MAF and all that stuff, flushed out the transmission, etc... I noticed that my RPMs would go a little funny when the shaking occured, at a stopped light, and when I pushed on the gas to go, it would hesitate a little or something. One day I was driving along and suddenly the RPMs were up at like 3 or 4 but my car stopped going I couldn't like push the shifter to go from D or 4,3,2,1 or anything, I dunno they said my tranny went out. I had to pay 2000 dollars and get a whole new tranny. They said it was getting stuck inbetween like D and 4, i have no friggin idea, but I replaced the tran. Now you guys are scaring me and making me think something is bad with my tran mount or engine mount.... but my car doesn't do that shaking thing anymore. Did you try flushing out the transmission? thats what I did first, it lessened the shaking but eventually later the whole tran gave out.

I just got back and the guy asked me before he even started on the car if there are any recalls on the car and i said no! so he went ahead and checked for any recalls and he saw one come up which have all the symptoms that i was having. it was regarding the ECU that was recalled for CLK'S made between December 2000 and end of May 2001. this is what the print out stated " ENGINE CONTROLS - ROUGH IDLE AFTER COMING TO A STOP" If you encounter instances of rough idle or hesitation after coming to a stop at engine operating temp, the engine control unit (ME-SFI) may be causing the engine to run lean.

Affected part # 113 153 0079
should be replaced by:
New Part # 113 153 0479

I tried calling 2 dealerships and they told me that there is no such recall that's coming up on their database. The result that i got came from ALL DATA ONLINE.

Im actually stuck right now on what to do with my car. should i push the MB Dealership to look at it further or just forget about it!

for an awesome gal.

So I hope others can chime in if they had this problem or not, never heard of the ECU being faulty or replaced in a 01 CLK but you never know, like you told me, that problem very much resembles to what you been having, so it just might be the ECU then who knows. WE will get this taken care of soon.

I've had shaking issues to, but nothing too violent and the only recall that I've gotten was for the harmonic balancer but the dealership said it didn't need replacing. That makes me wonder about riannausa and the problem she had with her car, I would definitely push the dealership about that recall and see if you can get some printout that shows the recall and take it to them so they can physically see it. Glad that someone was honsest enough to finally tell you the real problem, I'm just sorry it had to take so long to fix the problem.

Ok here is my .02 worth if it may help.I agree that all misfires do not turn on the check engine light it has to reach a certain threshold value before it does. What your mechanic is probably talking about is not a recall but what is called a DTB(Dealer Technical Bulletin). There may be newer software for the ME control module or it may have to be replaced only certain modules can be flashed for newer software. But I have also seen multipule times a carbon ring build up on the back of the throttle actuator flap/throttle body to starve the engine for air when coming to a stop there also could be an internal electrical failure of the throttle actuator unable to say.I would suggest to attempt and clean the throttle actuator opening behind the flap and also on the flap using throttle body cleaner and a rag you will just have to take the intake pipe at the back of the manifold off to do this.Hope this info may help.

yes i misfire can cause it to shake.. cause if your running on one or two less cyl. on a stop it will shake.. then once you start rolling agian it will go away...

When I had this problem, my car was also misfiring and everytime it misfired, my check engline light would blink for almost a minute and then finally become solid. Process would repeat a few times a day.
