Need winter tires recommendation for my CLK 430

Ive recently moved my car to NYC and have realized that Ill need snow tires if I want to use the car confidently. Can anyone recommend tires. Should I stay with stock rims or should I move to 16" wheels for maximum effectiveness.

2002 CLK 430 Coupe
On a prior car that I owned I had a set of four (recommended) Pirelli Winter Assimetrico's and was totally amazed that these "winter" skins handled as well as they did in the dry and the white. Supposedly they were designed for the ski freeks that drive their 911 Turbos in the Alps. My suggestion would be to get four 225/45-17's mounted on new rims but YMMV as well as that of others.

CLK 55
Go to the Tirerack forum, and ask Luke what to do. On a CLK55 , Luke told me not go to 16inch because of the brakes. He recommended Dunlop S-02, I believe, and they were very good last winter, in New Jersey.
