Cats replaced New Sound
Thanks for answering my questions about my rattling when i first came to the forums. The MB dealer actually replaced my cats (cats, nuts, screws, clamp, a peice of exhaust pipe) under the 8yr/80k warranty and now the bad rattling has gone away. But sometimes when accelerating, i hear a light high pitched rattle. Can this be the sound from the secondary cats? Do they even check those at the dealer under the 8yr/80k warranty? Or can this just be normal noise heard after the new cats are installed for a little bit of time till they "break in" (if they even have a break in period, im no where near close to a mechanic). Oh and the dealer also said my bushings* need to be replaced, im guessing some type of suspension bushing? Can this be the cause of that light high pitched rattle? (Havent searched on the bearing issue yet, just came to mind as i was typing this, will do a search right now)
Thanks for your answers guys they have already saved me some $$.

Other than the smell, there's no break in period for cats. Your car has four cats that are made up of two parts. Sound confusing? It's a good thing we have pictures.

If they replaced the right hand side (the upper piece in the photo), one primary and both secondary cats were replaced (that's about an $1100 part). If they replaced the left hand side, they replaced a single pre-cat (about a $600 part). Cats are not supposed to make any rattling noise. I have no idea what the noise could be, but the "bushing" they mentioned could be a rubber exhaust hanger. Of course, it could be a suspension bushing too. They'd have to give you a little more information.
