quick rim/tire question

my dad has an '01 clk 320. we got a set of 17" amg wheels and tires for it. the fronts are 225 and the rears are 245. the rear rim also has more lip to it. are the rear rims wider then the front? also, i think one of the front tires has a bed belt. my friend (who works for benz) is offering me a set of 245 series tires with good tread. i think they are 245/40/17 all 4. he said he pulled them off a clk. will they fit in the front of my car without rubbing? thanks.

your friend who supposedly works for MB, must not be a tech, as 245/40/17 is NOT the recommended size for the front tires. You should go with a 225 in the front.

There is a reason why your rear wheel has a larger lip....it is wider. This type of setup is called a "staggered" set-up. You put a wider tire in the rear, because your vehicle is a rear-wheel drive.

Don't buy the tires from your friend. Just visit www.tirerack.com, and get the best deals for your tires. EASY.

actually i spoke to him about them again...i must have misunderstood him because the set he has is the correct 225 front and 245 rear. im well aware what staggared wheel set ups are and just because its rear wheel drive doesnt mean you need a wider rear tire. either way, im picking up the tires because they are FREE!
