dead battery

It is finally looking like spring here in Chicago. I went to start the car up and the battery is way dead. The car has been pretty much sitting since November. I think the battery needs to be replaced (MY2000). I have read on some of the forums that we need to replace this with an OEM battery because we need to connect the tube that supposedly prevents hydrogen buildup. Are there any opinions on this?
Thanks.

Several aftermarket batteries come with the same tube. it is not necessary to go with Oem if this is your only concern.
