I was just told at the local MB dealership that all my spark plugs and plug wires need to be replaced for $1,600. I have a 2002 CLK430 with only 36,000 miles on it. Does this sound right for a CLK with such low miles and do you have to replace all of plugs/wires at the same time? The car is running just alittle rough at idle which caused me to have them look into it.
The OEM plugs are 5 year / 100,000 mile units. Based on that, the original plugs should have been changed in 2006, regardless of mileage. The wires don't have a time/mileage schedule, so I can't say whether they're due or not. If the car isn't missing, I wouldn't be in a rush to change them. I certainly wouldn't use the originals. The factory wires are sold individually. Three of the sixteen wires have a list price of $41. The remaining thirteen wires have a list price of $32.50. List price on a set is $545.50. Based on that, I'll be buying a set from Autohaus AZ for $175 when I'm due.
Thanks for the info. I was thinking of having the just the plugs replaced first to see if it solves the problem before they replace all the wires. I have heard that it is much more likely that the plugs need to be changed than the wires. I didn't realize you could get the wires for so much cheaper from Autohaus AZ.
