Thinking About Buying a 99 CLK430 Need Input

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 a friend of a friend knew I was looking for a CLK430 and introduced me to this guy. He has a 1999 CLK430 black on Grey with 79k miles.

The car drove good, and was very clean. I personally was looking for a 2000+ body style but I think I may consider. Is there anything anyone can tell me about the 1999 vs the 2000 and anything I need to look for with a 8 year old car with almost 80k miles?

I know the car holds up but its higher miles then I am us to driving. I was a BMW owner almost all my life but like the style of the CLK's.

Either case any input would be great.

People on this forum have come across a number of minor, DIY type problems with this car. First things first, I would take a code reader to the car and see if it spits out any codes. I have 73k miles on my 2000 clk and I recently had O2 sensors setting off my CEL light, the blower motor regulator go bust, stop lamp switch has gone bust but besides these things, it has been a relatively painless. Either way, I would just browse thru the threads on this forum and get a gauge of what people are saying. The How-To Thread could give you more insight on what kind of problems people have experienced with their cars.

Hope this helps.

My 2000 was very reliable. It left me stranded once but that was the dealers fault... OT, my dealer left me stranded in my E55 too..... interesting..... But anyway they are great cars

Check the idle and if you do buy it change the tranny fluid asap.

'99's have the problem tranny - do a search and I'm pretty sure you'll find members who have had to replace their tranny due to the defect. 2000 and newer don't have this issue. Potentially a big $$$ headache.

I have a 1999 and only major problem I've had so far was
the alternator voltage regulator go out, bought one online
for 25 bucks. Might need a new MAF but its no biggy.
I'm at 111k+ btw.
