CLK 320 Check engine light
Greetings all, I drove about 75 miles on Sunday to the airport. On the way I stopped at the store for a diet coke and came back out and the car would not start. When the engine turned over it sounded like the injectors were not getting fuel. I was in a hurry, so I purchased a can of ether. Sprayed a little in the air cleaner and the car fired right up. The Check Engine Light illuminated and stayed on until I reached the airport. I thought that I would take care of the problem when I returned. I got back in the car last night and it fired right up and the engine light was not illuminated. I thought "great, the computer found and corrected the problem." Went to work this morning, stopped to get a cup of coffee and the car would not restart. I did the ether trick again and it fired up, the engine light illuminated and off I went. Came back out this afternoon and the car fired up and the engine light was not illuminated. Does anyone have any thoughts before I head off to the repair shop? Thanks, Todd

Todd, it sounds like the crankshaft position sensor is faulty. The part is about $125 at your dealer (about $95 with the MBCA discount). Labor will be a minimalist fee (about an hour). I would not have the dealer perform diagnostics as the diagnostic fee will be more than labor to install the part.
