I have the opposite problem, it only comes out under the dash, but won't change to anything else.
I talked it over with my buddy at MB, and he said it could be one of two parts in the heater box. One part (aprox. $120) controls the flaps(?) and is fairly easy to get to. The other part (aprox. $30) are the clips that hold/pivot the flaps (which can easily break) are deep in the heater box, and hard to get to.
Of course it has to work like that. Cheap=Complicated or Pricey=Easy. Where do you start?
They can give you a nice printout at the parts department to see what they are and how to get to them, but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself. I'll look around to see if I still have the part numbers.
Good Luck!

check the thin white pipe at the back of the engine. it is the supply for the vacume to the control flaps. if you have a problem with your motor mounts the motor moves and the tube becomes disconnected

^ that i already checked.. its above the throttle body.
mine every thing works but only when go higher than 68, it wont send heat from center vents.
i know some manuals from the dealer, it states that NO HEAT whatsoever should come out from center vent.. but in my case, it did but it stopped suddently
