So the other day I come outside to notice a crease in my freshly painted hood, and of course I'm mad at the world for a few days. As days go by I notice the crease is getting bigger and bigger?!?! At this point I'm like wtf is goin on!? In the meantime I've had this weird thumping noise when accelerating along with a shake from what seemed like the front left suspension. I kept driving the car until I had a chance to let someone look at it. Well, the verdict was a bad motor mount and as the technician is showing me how much the motor moves when accelerating (x1), I put 2 & 2 together(x1)...my motor was hitting my hood (x2) and caused the crease. Of course, while trying to dissect the noise, I repeatedly accelerated to try and locate the noise. Now not only do I need to change my front mounts, I have to get my hood body worked/replaced and repainted...just because of a $69 motor mount (x2)

Wow that sucks. What are the early detections that your motor mounts is going bad?

When the motor mounts are going bad, at idle, the car will vibrate. During a B service, the undercarriage is looked over. The tech is looking for leaks. When the mounts leak, it's obvious. Howie's mounts are broken. That usually happens way after they've leaked.

Howie, you may need the trans mount too. The good news is; it's cheap. If the trans mount is busted, look at the flex discs. They may be dead too. As long as it's on the rack, you may want to look at the diff side seals. They go out after a while too (but are unrelated to the trans or motor mounts).

one way to test, is open up your hood. put the car in gear, hold down the brake, and slowly rev up to about 1000 rpm's, if the motor tips over to the side, your motor mounts are dead.

i suggest replacing both motor mounts and trans mount at the same time as the trans mount is easily accessible and only 49 bucks. worth it to do it all at once.

good news people, I just got both mounts replaced. Took the tech no time at all! Grand total $200 (parts+install). I'll have to take it to the paint shop to fix the hood later on sometime!

Might try a paintless dent removal guy. I've had really good luck with them in the past!

not even close. I used my employee discount to get the mounts for cost ($69 each) and let a tech here at my job install them. Took him no time at all so he only charged me 60 bucks.

naaaah, I'm gonna have my boy at the body shop fix the dent and paint over the hood. Maybe I'll add "a lil sumtn sumtn" custom to the paint job
