Removing the wood around the shifter?

does anyone no how to remove the wood near the shifter? thank you for your help

1998 CLK 320
its very simple. flip open the ashtray grab the top part of the wooden console right where it meets the ashtray and just carefully pull it up and back

You need to remove the trim around the shift lever first....but basically you just pull off as above. Careful when you raise it up that you don't pull any of the module connections.

you dont need to remove the trim around the shift lever 1st that will come off with it
