ben, You don't need hood pins for your hood? Does it shake a lot at highway speed?

I am thinking of making a carbonfiber/fiberglass hood for the 208, but i am worried about how it will stay on my car being around 25 pounds.... when 80mph wind gets under there... i'm sure it will rip it right off my car....

I'm guessing a fiberglass hood should weight in at around 30+ pounds... so you don't have any problems like that?

I would hate to have to add hood pins to the car...

I would never put hood pins on a street car. It's just not my look...

This hood is designed to work with all the stock bracketry and hood shocks. It opens and closes like any hood. There is no shaking, because like your stock hood, it locks in place when closed.

Ya, I agree hood pins on a street car is just...tacky...

I was just asking because when i had carbon fiber hood on my other cars, it would get shakey after I past 75mph...
55mph if it's a japanese car with 1 center lock...

Thanks for the info thou ben.

Shatz makes one grill, which is Tom and the burgandy CLK both have.

The Big grill (CL STYLE) is made by Expression. We carry both.

Ben, see my pictures, my grill has the BIG STAR which is not the one on the burgundy CLK, that one is small. The difference between mine and yours is that mine keeps the chrome molding around the grill and yours is without it, like the CL's, and of course the cost of it.

Adonis, Schatz is not making the small star grill anymore, if Ben @ evosport can't get it for you, I bought it from www.performanceproducts.com

I have the same grill but with the small star.

but i have also seen the grill with the insert for the big star that usually is on the the hood also. i guess its just down to what you want and how much you are willing to shell out. for me a few hundred bucks is okay, but i dont have $2k to be spending on just a hood with a star grill. (BUT it does look swEET!)

I will diverge a little and ask:

Do you guys think it'll look good if I got the big star grill and black out the entire thing?

i think that will look good. i was thinking of painting my star grill black but leaving the start itself unpainted. i think that will give it a good contrast...

How did you get a black grill? Did you paint it yourself? Do you get any chips on the black finish?

By the way, love the black side markers!

I had the grille and side markers painted by a bodyshop. The grille was first sand-blasted to remove the chrome. The side markers were sanded to remove the embossed letters. Both were painted with flex base-coat paint + clearcoat.

I travel often from Sacramento to LA and I got tired (or more often forget) of switching out the grille every road-trip so yes I have two very small rock chips on the grill. I figure I'll just have it re-painted when necessary.

You know, when someone makes an inquiry, and comments on how nice your car is, you really should reply.......even if it's to tell'em to go f.....off. Hope you got every pennie you diserved. Good luck, and again, nice car.

Arnee,

I came across that silver clk for sale on ebay awhile back and emailed the seller b/c the car was such a close resemblance to mine. I asked him where he got his grill from, sent him two different emails, never responded.

I took it as so bad b/c I really went out of my way to pay this person a compliment. By the looks of his car, we had the same taste.
Like I stated above, the least he could of done was tell me to go f.... off.....from one Benz guy to another, that's all.

Self-Centered people just get to me, there's no reason for it.

Joe,

I think that the auction was actually somone else using his car in the picture. That silver CLK belongs to Lorinser CLK, who if I remember correctly is not selling his car.

Mach430,

Then I stand completely correted, and embarassed for acting out of haste. I would have never imagined in a million years Lorinser allowing such intimate access to one of their model vehicle.

If this was truly the case, please accept my apologies if I offended anyone, especially theine.

On a positive note, I did mean what I said about the car being SWEET.

Just to clear things up, yes that is my car and no it is not for sale. I did see pictures of my car on ebay though a while back. I actually had some fun emailing the guy and asking him questions about the car. He couldn't even tell me what kind of wheels they were and what size.

By the way, Joe55, thanks for the compliment!!!

Painted Side Markers

Lorinser, as always, the car is definately off the chain!!! I could have sworn I saw you driving down South Dixie Hwy near Coconut Grove in Miami a couple of month ago. By the time I made my U turn, the car was gone.

Anyway, I'm thinking about painting my side markers. Have you gotten any flack from FHP, Metro-Dade, BSO or other's cause of the painted marker?? Please advise!

Thanks !

Spending a fortune upgrading their cars

For people out there that don't wan't to spend a fortune upgrading their cars, for the cost of the Expression hood/grill combo I got:
-H&R Springs (from evo sport) $256
-Koni Sport Shocks $400
-Evo Sport UD Power Pulleys $510
-Installation on all above $950
-Schatz Big Star Grill $259

theine, no offense, but shame on you for the above comment - Aren't you a MBNZ owner??!!!! You making a comment like that is like a non MBNZ owner saying that he could buy 6 Geo Metros for the price of one CLK 430 and can still get to point "B" and back.

We all have our preferences and we all have different levels of "deep pockets". I'm not saying this because I'm having my "Expressions" CL style Grill/Hood installed this week, but because I felt that it's lighter, and it adds more character to the car's look, and most of all I can afford it. And I'm sure Ben "Mach 430" and Lorinser can share the same sentiments with the looks!!! That's probably why they spent a little more to get it installed. And boy, the compliments will be endless!!!!

Anyway theine, as noted above, not to "disrespect" you, but if you can afford a BNZ, then MONEY IS NOT A FACTOR when it comes to what you like best on your car!!

Peace !

P.S. your glacier white looks great!!!!!

Umm.. no offense, but the "compliments will be endless" only from people who recognize the difference. Which is maybe 5% of the Mercedes owning population. The rest will give a disinterested "that's nice" as you rave about your new hood.

As to the Money is not a factor comment, I'll buy that just as soon as you take me on a ride in your Gulfstream and put me up on your private yacht on the riveria.

Until then, money remains a factor. People are going to make their decision based on a variety of factors. I don't own any of the three grills shown. The decision I make will be based on the criteria I consider important. Just as the decision you make is based on the criteria you judge important. But your judgement on this is no better or worse than mine.

My point is this:
You don't criticize me for buying a "cheap" grill (if I choose to do so) and I won't criticize you for wasting 2000 dollars on a piece of fiberglass that going to crumple like tissue paper in the event of an accident.

In short, treat others the way you expect to be treated.

Regards,
-Bouncer-

I haven't had any problems with the police regarding the side markers. I wouldn't worry about it. And yes, that was probably me you saw in Miami. I go to South Beach and The Grove a lot.

Thanks for the compliments!!

Talking

Those who can afford the hood grill combo want to show their pockets are just that deep. Believe me there is nothing wrong with having money like that. I also agree that the h/g combo does look slightly better than the solo grill and may add better performance due to its lighter weight. But unless you race your benz it just doesn't justify the spending and that's just my 2cents. Let's be honest. Can anyone tell by looking at a stock hood and the solo grill and the hood grill combo that there is a difference of around $1700. nope
