mad noise from under hood

OK so from the passenger side of the motor, i have a real loud clicking noise. when its in park it sort of noticeable. but when in drive, its very loud. definitely from a spinning mechanism. when i turn off the car, the noise slowly winds down.

then there is times when there is no noise all all. does not seem to be coming from the fans or the vaulves. sounds maybe in the belt area??

and the noise is completely separate from the revs of the car. when i rev the car it remains the same pace of click.

need help. car has 76,000 miles

Passenger side? Is this a UK car, making the passenger side on the left? If so, it semi-common. "Semi" as in "it's never happened to me, but I've got notes on what's caused it for others". If it's a US Car, and it's truly the right side, then I have no idea what the problem is. Post back and let me know if it's the left front, or right front.

Sounds like the problem was mine.

Mine did the same thing, God aweful noise almost embarrassing to drive. mine would go away in park also. Turns out mine was in the belt area and all it was is the belt tensioner. Thank god... Hope it helps good luck!

yeah its a american car. its is on the passenger side. i have opened the hood and checked it out and i think its from the belt area. not 100 percent sure. but as the car turns off the noise slowly goes away through revolutions.

how much it the belt tensionr to fix? it deff is embarrassing when the noise is going on
