If you pull down the arm rest, theres a piece of plastic between you and the trunk. I broke that with a hammer (it breaks cleanly and its as if there was never anything there) and had my very small friend climb through to pull the trunk release. I then had to order a new electronic trunk lock and replace it. Breaking the plastic was my last resort after playing with my key and lock for a couple hours and trying to get through the first aid hole. Good Luck

99CLK320,
for future reference
leave one of the back seats unlocked, as in, pull the release lever in the trunk so that one of the seats can lean forward. I rarely have anyone ride in the back seat so why not keep one of them unlocked so if the trunk lock fails....ta dah!

Preventive maintenance: Use the metal key to open the trunk and driver's door whenever you do a B-service. The lock jambs up when it hasn't been used for decades.
