Adding the COMMAND (navi) module??

I have a 01 CLK430 without Navi and was wondering if it's possible to buy the Navi system from MB and add it to my car? Has anyone done this or know of the amount of time, money and effort to accomplish this?

Thanks.

Its been done before. I did it with my car. Do a search in the Audio and Electronics forum and you should find a lot of threads on it.

There's a guy on the C class thread site that is from the Netherlands. He's making a tour of the US installing Euro spec command systems in people's car this year. The Euro spec has some cool additions that the US spec doesn't have. My buddy is getting his done in NYC in Feb. I believe the guy is going to LA sometime soon.

It's $200 deposit and $1300 total, installation included. Don't remember the guy's name, but do a search on the C class board and you should find it no prob.

He also does Xenons and tons of other stuffs.

I think the commands are refurbs.

His name is Steve, and you can mail him at s_krabbenborg@hotmail.com ... he's already here in the US, so it may be too late to get on the list for this trip. His next trip should be in a couple months and if you set up a time now, he can start planning.

By the way, if you go to the dealer and buy a COMAND, you will probably get a refurm. New COMANDs are slated for new vehicle production. If they run out of refurbs, you might get a new one, but I've never seen it.

A lot of dealers won't install the Comand System onto a non-comand vehicle....When I was shopping for my car, they located a lot of CLKs w/out comand. I was going to buy what they have in stock and have the dealer install the comand afterwards. But no one would do it.....

You might want to email Steve and see if he has an extra unit for W208....Steve will be in L.A. on the first week of February. People has been giving great feedbacks about his Euro Comand and I am getting one for C32....

Steve came to So. Cal at the end of 2002 to do a whole bunch of comand installations and xenons as well. From what I know, he knows what he's doing and does a great job. I believe Oggle and Class C had their Euro Comand done by Steve.

Steve is one of the best if not the best at OEM MB equipment installs. He knows every nook and cranny of every MB model and his installation jobs are of the best quality. You will not get his technical expertise and expert detailed installations at any MB service dealership. I should know, I've witnessed several installs (Steve is staying at my house in NY). Safet, a NY MBworld member (CLK 430), just had his installed yesterday by Steve. Just ask him about his Comand and Steve's expertise...

:o this makes me a kind of embarassed.... :o

I already shipped out all parts I need for the reserved comand installs to the states...and have added some extra parts and comand units in case some units fail.
I tested all units I shipped out before I shipped them out and don't expect any problems with either one of the units, so I guess I will have 1 additional comand left that will fit your CLK Johnnyboy...just let me know whether you are intersted or not.

If all goes as planned, I will arrive in the LA area somwehen between 2 and 5 february.

greetingz,

The mbenz command looks more factory though, It all depends on what kind of look your going for. To me aftermarket tv's take away from the classiness of a Mercedes Benz vehicle but thats just me.

I agree with you J. That's why I'm having Steve do my car. Not only do I think it takes away from the classiness of the Benz (Seriously, who HONESTLY watches the tv's in the back of the headrests? LOL) but I also want to keep my steering wheel controls and dash integation. :0)

I have a COMAND in my G500 (comes in every 2002+ model) and it also has the TV screens in the headrests as well as a PlayStation2 for video/audio source.

I must say, it's one of the most popular features for the passengers in the G500. Even short trips to restaurants, and you can find people playing video games and watching DVDs.

I recall that Steve (MBenzNL) was quite fond of PacMan World on his last trip.

Putting them in the headrest are fine as long as the color matches the interior,ie: wood, leather. But having like a motorized alpine in there just looks soooo not mercedes. Again, thats just my opinion

A G500 is a totally different story :0) You can actually take people on trips in that, but TV's in the headrests of a CLK? LOL The TV would be about 6 inches from your face. ;0)
