99 CLK 320 doors dont shut well
i just bought my 99 CLK 320 from a VOLVO dealer...everything looks great...except for the driver/passenger door. i believe the doors should shut easily with little force when closing it..but for some reason both my doors wont shut properly with little force..i would have to literally slam it shut in order for the door shut flushed with the body. i assumed it was because one of the door screws were loose and therefore the door might of been unaligned. but the MB service guy said that it was because of the window weatherstrips. he rolled down the windows and closed the door lightly without a prob. how can this be fixed??? any ideas..i want to be able to lightly shut my doors with the windows rolled up.

I have a 99 430 and I have the same problem. I also have an INCREDIBLE amount of wind noise above 50mph. It sounds like if a window is open all around. Anyway to decrease this without taking it to the dealer so they can BS ME.

sorry to hear about that...yeah at least mine doesnt have the wind noise. but it bothers me that the doors have to be shut so hard in order for them to close right..kinda takes away the luxury a bit. i dont remember right but i think i came across a thread that someone said the 2000 and later models windows automatically roll down a little when u press the unlock button then rolls back up when the door shuts. i think this may be a problem with pre2000 models. like if i roll down my window a little my doors shuts with no problem. ill let u know if i find a fix.

Out Of Control!!
The windows do not have that feature on the 99s. I'm not completely sure what the problem with the doors is, but if the car has been in a major accident, the doors may not have been realigned properly.

2000 CLK 320
This has been discussed before and I too have noticed it in my car. With the pre 01 models without the 'auto window down feature,' I believe air pressure builds up inside the cabin making the door closure difficult. The 'auto window-down' feature makes sense as it lets the air pressure escape upon closing the door and also ensuring a tight seal with the windows. It should be possible to replace some module in the car that would allow the windows to go down automatically. Anyone know how much those modules cost? MBtech?? Thanks.... I'm sure I just can't go to the dealer and say 'add this feature.' Wish I could though...

I have a '99 CLK320 that had the same door problem. YOu really had to slam the driver door, and sometimes the window would catch on top of the weather stripping lip leaving a gap until it popped back in. The dealer tried adjusting the door strike out a bit, and I did not like the result at all. The door closed quite easily but now there was a tiny gap at the window, at door level.
He then was able to adjust the window somehow. He said there is an adjustment that'll move the window up, down, in or out (or something..) Anyway this window adjustment did the trick nicely. (Let me know if you are able to solve the problem this way)
The passenger side has been fine all along.

The pre 2000 models do not have the "auto down" window option. I have a '99 CLK 430 and the doors have been always hard to close it's not a matter of being in an accident.
If you want you can go to your dealer and have him install the module that would automatically move the window down when the door opens to relieve pressure and close the door easier. I had a problem with my window and when the dealer fixed it, voila! my driver's side window would go down when I opened the door. It's not something hard to install according to my dealer.
As far as the wind noise is concerned try to click your window down a bit while you drive to see if indeed it's a problem with the window. Although most noise in CLKs is caused by the side mirrors which are not very aerodynamic (like say the M3 ones which have a hole).

2002 CLK320
I've got a 2002 CLK320 and its the same way. It does have the auto window down (when door is open) and window up (when door is closed). I think for some reason MB doors just don't close easily without some force. It does suck when you have your hands full and you just want to do the "butt-push" to close the door and it won't close all the way.

I have a 99 and have the same problem. On mine it is a little bit of the rubber weather stripping that catches on the top rear side of the window. I normally close the door, then roll the window down a bit to let that lip of the striiping loose, then roll it up so the window goes snug under the lip. I have thought about busting out the heat gun and trying to mold it a bit, but doesn't sound like such a good idea sober.

W208 CLK320 1998
I'm new to this, but thought I might be able to help. My 1998 CLK320 had the same problem with the windows rolling up too high. When the door was shut, it would catch on the rubber strip at the top, and leave a gap down the side of the window. I phoned the stealer, and they advised that an adjustment would be about £120! What I found out is that if you open the door, roll down the window to the bottom, and then lie down underneath the door you will see some rubber plugs. Take these out, and then look up inside these holes, and you will see some star shaped bolts. These are the stops for the window regulator, and are adjustable. You will need a female Torx socket of the appropriate size. To make the window stop a little lower, turn the two adjusters (front and rear of window) a quarter of a turn clockwise each (or more as required), and then check the alignment. Ajust them up or down as appropriate, and check the alignment by winding up the window and shutting the door. Don't forget those seals do need to keep the weather out! When you have got the adjustment right, replace the rubber plugs, and then sit in the car, and wind the windows up by holding the switch at the first position (not one touch up), then hold in the 1st position for about 5 seconds. They should then function correctly, and you shouldn't have to slam the doors!!! It worked on mine!
Hope this helps.

I know this an old thread, but want to say thanks to the post above. When my '99 CLK 320 Cabriolet was first purchased, I was told that closing the doors required a person to push in on the window glass. I was able to get the doors to easily close by adjusting the window stops. Actually, my rear driver side stop was missing! I was able to find one online and do the adjustments.

The windows on the pre auto down feature worked fine when new...no adjustments etc needed (will allow wind and water)....the weather strip rubber has hardened and will not allow window to slip under rubber when door closing as when new......either replace the rubber or .....apply multiple coats of silicone lubricant until it is absorbed into the rubber. This will have to be repeated. I simply replaced the rubber and was fine after that.

cindyclk......excellent analysis and preventative maintenance suggestion.
The W208 has been one of the best Mercedes models that has been produced in recent years, which is why I still own my A208, since purchasing it, new in 2001.
The reward has been, other than routine maintenance (e.g. oil / coolant changes, one transmission service and brake pad change), the necessary repair issues have been extremely few and inexpensive DIY (e.g. MAF, CPS, HVAC regulator).
Although my 2001 A208 cabriolet has the updated drop down window feature, as preventive maintenance and as you suggested, each year, I also apply a silicone lubricant, to prevent the rubber seals from hardening.
That said, just a quick heads up, as the W208 continues to age, the plastic components will also become brittle and disintegrate upon touch (e.g. breather pipes when changing spark plugs, insulation on wiring harnesses etc.).

Old thread, but informative and useful.
Just bought a MY2000 C208 w/only 20,000 miles. No wind noise at all, but doors are hard to close when buttoned up. Vent a window or sunroof, and it closes like a Mercedes should (like my MY04 CLK320).
Will try it this weekend if the OAT warms up a bit.
I read somewhere that there is a feature in the early W208 models which, when the door is opened, calls the EC function on the climate control to partially open the flap to vent the pressure when closing the doors. Now I can't locate that article. Nor can I find it in the WIS. Anyone know about this, or ever heard of it before?

For all owners who own pre 2001 models, you must replace your window modules with the updated ones. MB were using the W210 modules up to 2001 ( don't ask me why, must be the Chrysler influence )

the sound that i hear in my car sounds more like it comes from the rear side windows, perhaps from the gasket. I'm not sure why but there are specific gaps in the window gaskets on these cars.

Ahmed,
You have me convinced - gonna give it a try.
eBay had some used cheap, now there are only MB sourced new - but well worth it.
I wonder if there is any version coding or other 'software updates', or it is a plug 'n play?
