2002 CLK 430 Cab.
New member CLK 430 questions
Hi to all. I just bought a 2002 CLK 430 cab. I got it form the original owner and it has 15000 miles. I actually bought it last November but put it away for the winter. I took it to the local MB dealer and had a service A done before I put it away. They used Mobil 1 5W40 and also put “MAO oil additive in. I have been driving it for the past few weeks now and am now and noticing a sight valve tap in the mornings until it reaches normal operating temp. It only occurs @ right around 2000 rpm under a light load. I do not remember hearing it last fall when I was driving the car. Thanks in advance for any suggestions..Jim

2000 CLK 320 Drop Top
Sorry I don't have an answer! My guess would be that it's just taking a little while for the oil to get to all the parts. I believe 0W-40 oil is the suggested weight.
You found an 02 with 15000 miles???? Damn! Where was that car when I was looking??? LOL!!

Congrats on the car.
The only MOA I know of is by a company called BG. It’s crap. If a Mercedes-Benz dealer added BG MOA to Mobil1, you may want to find another dealer. BG claims motor oil breaks down due to heat and leaves sludge. Allegedly their MOA corrects that problem. You know how? It thins out the oil. Among other things, oil that's too thin results in a noisey valvetrain.
The CLK owner’s manual has a section on engine oil additives. They say "don’t".

Thanks for all the comments. I thought it strange to put an additive in too. I am going to get it out. What oil should I use 10W-40, 15W-40? The car was owned by a guy who had 27 cars at the time I bought it from him. This particular one was @ his house in Florida (which he only used in the winter) hence the mileage, basically just sat in the garage. It is triple black so it would not be any fun in the Florida summer. I will post some pics when I get it cleaned up. It is a real sweetheart. Jim

I think the first thing I’m going to do is to ask the dealer why the put an additive in my car when the manual says expressly not to. Plus I would think you should never mix a petroleum based product with synthetic, right? I’m thinking I will ask them to get it out (change oil) for free and see if it takes care of the problem. If not it could get ugly. Why would you use an oil additive in a 15000 mile engine?
