What are Front and Rear Camber Kits for?

Sorry, but I just wanted to know what are front and rear camber kits for? If I get 19" rims with the same offset as the stock AMG rims do I have to get camber kits? I really don't want to spend $600 on camber kits and then 5 hours worth of install by my mechanic (5X$90 hourly rate) which is gonna be well over $1000 with tax. Also, what is the average hourly rate to install camber kits? And the hourly rate to install camber kits and full suspension (shocks included)? By the way after don't I have to get my car aligned afterwards?

Thanks,
Steve

Camber kits are to make your tires sit up and down. They're typically needed after lowering a vehicle, not just replacing wheels w/ a similar overall diameter wheel/tire combo. If you were to look at your car from the back, tires sitting like / \ would be a camber issue and when fixed would sit like | | so the tires wear properly. However, only the rear typically requires an aftermarket camber kit or camber arms. You can buy MB specific front camber bolts for about $20 each (2 per side) that can be installed during an alignment. The labor should only be about an hour extra inside a typical alignment. I would get the alignment b/c 19" tires do not come cheap...

you would require an extra hour or 2 for the rear camber kit. $600 + 5 hours of $90 labor is ridiculous.

ya foreal camber kit was such an expensive job....paid 500+ for the kit and expect to pay about 500 for labor with or possibly without the alignment...all together....i ended up payin 500+ for the kit, 480 labor, 155 alignment, and had to get a new centerlink and rear wheel bearing before the alignment ...175 parts +300 labor...so ya....and i cudnt even get back to factory spec but i think close enough

wow hersh. that's ridiculous. and in my opinion, looks terrible too haha. Mine wasn't anywhere NEAR that bad after the drop.

So CLK430Benz, didn't realize you meant suspension and camber install. If you're doing suspension and wheels, I would recommend:

Camber arms for the rear (easy to install, FULL adjustability) ebay or from speedybenz. about $200-275 for the rear pair.

MB front camber bolts, 2 per side at $20 each, so about $80

Alignment - $100-175 depending on whether it's included in the labor

Install time for suspension and camber components - 5 hours at $90 is a fair price. I've seen from $250 to $600 for labor. $400-450 is about right if nobody is doing you a favor.

I think it's these, but I'm not 100%. I wouldn't order from the stealership if i were you. Online they're about $10 each. I hear stealership marks them up past $15 sometimes....

If you lower your car, you will need a camber kit

eccentric camber bolts up front and camber arms or kit in the rear

if you don't lower the car, you shouldn't have any major camber issues and therefore you would need no camber correction kit.
