Engine won't start after sitting 3-4 hrs

Can someone help? After driving to work, my car won't start when I want to go somewhere for lunch. Same thing if I go somewhere for lunch, it won't start when I want to go home. '99 CLK430 w/76k miles. Cranks fine, no CEL, no codes, just won't start. After about 45 minutes, it will eventually start. Very embarrasing. I bought the car w/63k miles, and had to have the MAF meters replaced shortly after that, but no other major maintenance. It has been happening for about 6 weeks, and is very consistent with sitting for a few hours. Starts fine after sitting just a few minutes, and in the mornings. Doesn't matter if the tank is empty or full, it's done it both ways. Seems to run fine otherwise as far as accelleration, fuel mileage, idle speed, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it try to turn over when you have these problems or does your ignition lock up?

Sounds like a bad crank position sensor (CPS). It's somewhat common. The part is under $50 at Autohaus AZ.
