Nav System Error on Start
I just purchased a 2000 CLK 430 with COMMAND. My problem is that about 40-50% of the time when I start the car, the Nav system will say "Activating Navigation..." for a long time and then sometimes go into a "Navigation Error, the Navigation system is unavailable." This will always resolve itself after I drive for a mile or two, with no interaction from me. It just "fixes itself" and works normally. Also, once it is working normally, it never drops off or has problems. I don't live in a city or anything that would hurt satellite reception. I asked the dealer to look at it but they said it was functioning normally.
Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
A common problem with comand is a worn laser (usually caused by intensive use of music CDs) which starts by reading errors every now and then. Cleaning the laser with a "selfcleaning CD" doesn't really help and the reading error will come back for sure...swapping the laser or complete CD rom drive is what will solve the problem properly.
greetingz,
