Looking 4 Horsepower Gains-2002 CLK430

Lol, you guys are probably going to kill me for this, but the db levels aren't accurate either. Those readings were taken off an e36 M3. Don't forget the disclaimer:
"Average % HP gains are as follows: (note: numbers may vary based on the make and model of your vehicle) "
Poch,
From what you are saying, I would recommend the High Performance muffler. It's what I put on my dad's SL500. It's decently loud when you want it loud, and quiet when you want it quiet. Sport is always quiet and Race is always loud.

My final argument as to why changing your muffler should only be based off of looks and sound:
Sleestack lost 5hp with his Eisenmann Sport exhaust. This is why we urged them to make a muffler for the CLK55. The 430 exhaust was to restritive for AMG cars and tuned cars. If he lost 5hp, do you really think you will gain 5?
Again, I stress: Unless you have seen an independent dyno showing rear wheel hp gains (substantial), don't do the upgrade for power. Muffler upgrades should be based on looks and sound. There are a few cars that still benefit a lot (in power), but for the most case, performance is not changed.

That will be the last thing I'll do anyway, first I'm going to do............the pulleys, then the chip, then the muffler.
I should be placing my order by the end of next week or so.

If i am not wrong, chip doesn't work to improve our hp, does it?
Ben: So, will you lose hp if you change the stock to the race eisenmann exhaust on a 430?
Thank you

The chip may or may not help. So far, we have not found any that will help. We will be working with Powerchip to help tune the Mercedes on our dyno. If it works, we will then annouce it with dyno proof to the public. If it doesn't, we will not endorse it. Remeber, ECU tuning changes more than just rev limiters and top-speed governors. Bad software can have very bad effects.
Hinhin7,
I don't think any normal CLK's will lose power with an Eisenmann muffler. Most likely, the change will be unnoticable. All I am saying is do it primarily for looks and sound. If you go into it expecting to get power, you will probably be dissappointed.

In terms of the eisenmann exhaust, my butt dyno did not feel a difference! Im thinking about switching ECU tuning from speedtuning to powerchip, anyone have experience with powerchip?

Darn, this is one old thread.
Exhaust and Filter helps, probably right around 5hp combined. Other than that, maybe the Powerchip for 10hp.

Just a quick response to the talk about muffler changes... While you may not get much of an increase from an exhaust modification alone, you *will* however significantly decrease the car's weight. My 2002 CLK430 was weighed at 4,245 lbs from the factory. When I popped the muffler off (just did a muffler delete, but everything forward of it is still there), I found the muffler itself weighed about 30 lbs.
Mercedes-Benz built the cars with extremely heavy exhaust systems. I don't know what alloy they used, but it's definitely not aluminum they used for the exhaust based on the weight.
I'm personally considering creating custom downpipes to connect to the exhaust manifold and have everything pop out from just behind the front wheels (much like a first generation Dodge Viper). I imagine it'd significantly reduce weight, which would amplify the (rather small) power gains.

Very old thread.
According to the federally mandated GVWR sticker in my door jamb, the gross vehicle weight rating of a 2002 CLK430 coupe is 4245 pounds. By "rating" Mercedes Benz means the car, which weighs 3265 pounds, can be stuffed with another 980 pounds of people, luggage, and other stuff and still be safely operated. The 3265 pound vehicle weight is stated in the 2002 CLK press kit.

For normal driving there is no need to increase HP. If its for racing that's different.
The extra costs and the extra wear and tear, its just not worth the effort to do power adders to a street car, matter of fact its why I pick low powered cars to drive, I just can't afford the higher insurance from the tickets.
