...........It is the rain sensing wiper blades that you do not have to turn on. You just leave it at setting "one" and when ever you windshield gets wet it activates itself and wipes. It wipes faster as the rain falls harder. Neat device. Downside is that, if you ever go to an automatic car wash, you have to rember to turn it off or you won't be pleased. Also, it can activate itself when your windshield is cold or clody but not wet. Some see this as an annoyance, but I don't. I just ignore it and the thing finally figures out that it is not raining and stops itself. It is available in 200CLK onwards. I do not know if iit is present in the 1999 CLK. Hope this helps.

I too am very happy with the rain sensor option (on my C32).
Unlike Ted, I keep mine off, though, unless I need them - I am afraid I'll eventually get scrape marks on my windshield from the occasional single wipe when the glass is dry.
I wish that the wipe frequency map could be modified, maybe as a Star diagnostic. Mine seems to be on the money, but others compalin that it seems too fast / too slow.
There is a sensor on the windshield behind the mirror. The first wiper setting ("intermittent" on lesser cars
) is the one that does the thing.

I leave my off, till it rains... then i turn it to auto and let it do it's magic.... most of the time... I do agree with jswedberg, about it being adjustable... then it would be perfect!!
