Manual Shift Control?

Does that mean I can actually shift gears in my car with the gear shifter?

I always leave it in drive.

I thought that is bad for your car because there is no clutch

Can you actually switch gears?

No its not bad for the car. The car does all the "clutch" work for you.

I think you are only supposed to manually shift the cars with the triptronic model years 2000 and up. The 99 and below have the gears showing on the console but I heard that it was bad to continually use them like a manual transmission, this was the reason Triptronic was added later.

I could be wrong so hopefully someone else chimes in and helps me out here.

In the city I use 4th gear to keep the transmission from changing into overdrive so much. I use D drive on the freeway.
Iv'e changed gears in my CLK a couple of times but it wasn't any fun.

thats right I forgot that the models before 2000 do not have triptronic. I would say just leave it in drive.
