wiring for illuminated door sill?
Help, I have searched this entire forum and did find any threads on wiring details for illuminated door sills for W208 CLK.
If someone has installed the illuminated door sill on their own, can you please repond with details of which wires (colors) to splice so the door sill illuminate when the door is open.
I have taken the OE sill out and have access to all of the wiring. I found the wires for the door switch, hot power lead.... and 3 million other wires there as well. HELP.... :o
Thanks in advance....

I installed mine myself for both my SLK and CLK. I can't remember what color of wires I tapped to for the CLK, but it would be easiest if you have a volt-meter and simply look for the HOT wire since the door switches GND, not +12VDC.

Thanks Arnee.
I found the hot 12V line towards the front of the pannel and the door switch ground is towards the back by behind the seat connected to the door switch (push button switch). I'll have to keep on probing then.
I can get the light strip to turn on with power, but I can't get it to turn off yet when I push on the door switch... hum? ...

f1vu,
I presume you've already found the bus along the door frame? One of those wires is the door switch, believe it or not. It should be a dashed brown wire (if memory serves correct, it's a brown/yellow dashed wire). Of course, I haven't looked at it for 1 year and a half so ... please try at your own risk.
Also, another thing: these lighted sills come wired together, driver and passenger. I like mine to operate individually so I split the two up.
So, basically tap the red wire from the light strip to the 12V HOT and tap the black wire to the switched ground on the door switched (dashed brown wire)... this should allow the light strip to act how it should ideally act, like a refrigerator light.

Good luck!

Arnee,
Yup, I found the bus and a bunch of other connectors.
On the door switch bus, there are 3 wires = 1 is a brown/yellow, 1 is brown/grey, and 1 is solid brown. I'll try them one at a time to see which wire will turn it on and off.
I still need to find a hot 12v line towards the back of the door sill. The hot 12v that I found was towards the front of the door sill and was connected to a large cluster of 3 or 4 connectors leading wires into the door through the rubber boot.
Thanks...

Never mind guys. After probing around, I found the correct wires and my illuminated AMG door sill has been installed.
If anyone is interested on how to, let me know and I will post the details of the install.
Arnee, thanks for the tip on the switch wiring.
Thanks...

Here is a picture of my new "AMG" illuminated door sill. There are a few of these aftermarket version available. I really like this one. Its a complete piece that wraps around and replaces the entire MB OE door sill. The overall look is mirror-chrome with brushed stainless steel face. Very good quality. I bought it from www.formymercedes.com.
