My level of smug gets a hose down.
Hi all,
I am new to the forums and a new CLK430 convertible owner. My car is a 2003 with 22k miles on it, owned by some people who only drove it in nice weather as a 3rd car Florida "toy".
So, I am driving down the road today with the top down thinking I am about as cool as a cucumber for having purchased this pristine car when my windshield washers turn on and won't turn off. This is drenching the car, spraying me and the interior and ruining my 8 hours worth of detailing I did yesterday. It was hilarious and sad all at the same time. I pull over and shut the car off, and started pulling fuses in the washer/wiper circuits until it shut off. Honestly I probably needed a little hosing down, as I admit I was feeling a bit too smug. The Mercedes Benz gods apparently only allow so much smugness.
Anyway, is this a problem on CLK's or do I have a fluke? Anyone even know where to start with this problem?

Thanks for sharing a laugh. Unfortunately, I can't really help with your problem.

Sounds like a bad combination (turn signal / wiper switch). It's part number 2105450110, and it lists for $125. If you swap it, please document it. The service manual says the steering wheel has to come off. That’s easy, but wondering if it really has to.

Hrm, could be that switch I suppose. But one thing I realized later was that the wiper didn't come on during the whole fiasco. This suggests to me that the short must have come from somewhere else, as if it was just the switch that was shorted wouldn't it behave normally and turn the wiper on? I dunno, might just be wild speculation. Come to think of it, I do have what sounds like a slip ring squeak...maybe its actually the switch touching something....
