Transmission fault maybe?
Hi Guys I may have a problem with my transmission.
I say may, because it's not playing up but has a slight rumbling noise (sounds like my exhaust) when I leave it in drive with my foot on the brake (not doing a burnout Ha ha). When I slip it into neutral the noise stops. Also you can't hear it when driving, only at idle. There's no vibration or anything out of the ordinary!
It's not a loud noise, you can't hear it with the radio on, nor from outside of the car.
I changed my oil about a year (10,000miles) ago. There's no leaks that I can detect and the car drives normally.
Unfortunately I can't get the car seen until Monday so I need some advice please.

Thanks Marcus!
You've made me feel better about it.
It's odd though. I searched and no-one else has posted of such complaints. Today I spoke to a friend with some mechanical knowledge and he seems to think it might be a loose exhaust heat shield touching something.
I drove the car today as I normally would and it felt fine. I'll get it checked out and I'll post the result.

I had a problem in the past where I thought I needed new Catalytic Converters due to a metallic noise I was hearing frommy exhuast and it seemed to be coming from underneath the car. After going to exhaust shops to locate someone to weld in higher flowing cats we ended up finding a cover on the exhaust that was originally tacked in 4 corners. 3 of the 4 tack welds were broken and were causing the noise. The heat shield was located right after the primary cats right between the driver and passenger seats.
I would check this along with the mounts to make sure all is well!!

Hi Guys,
I got my car back and it was a simple fix!
An exhaust bracket had fractured and when the car was in 'D' the exhaust vibrated at a lower frequency and the bracket rattled away.
She's good again now, so Thankyou all for your helpful hints!
