Reprogramming wouldn't help any; it really could be anything (receiver, key, etc.) so maybe the other guys can help you troubleshoot it more.
Next time though, you might want to make sure all components properly work prior to completing the sale.

M-Benz is trying to save you some cash in the long run. The E-bay key can not be re-programmed by you at the house or even the dealer. So, if the Ebay ad states that they will provide instructions don't believe it. Or better yet..Call the Ebay seller and have them send you the instructions ahead of time and see if he can produce them. Also, call the dealership and ask them if they can Re-program a used key to work with your car. They will tell you no and that you will have to buy a new key. I guess they are only programmed in Germany so that is where they get them from. You will have to walk into the dealership to do the ordering as they want to see the registration and some ID when you order.
I still have only 1 key because I hate having to pay the 250 for a new one and have been down this route before. One of these days I will just bit the bullet and get a second key but I am good to go for now.

Check the fuse boxes that are under the hood, trunk, and the one by the driver side door on the side of the dash. I am not sure where that fuse is located but I bet that it either BLEW out and thereby not allowing you to use the alarm functions or even unlock the doors OR...there was a problem with the Alarm and the seller pulled the fuse to stop the alarm. Lets hope its only a blown fuse for now.

Therein lies your problem!!! Let me check my fuses as well and see if I can figure out which one it is.
EDIT: OK, the Alarm uses Fuses 2,4 and 5 in the trunk fuse box and the central locking system uses 2,4,8,9, and 17. So, I am almost positive that one of the fuses are bad so I would check all fuse #'s 2,4,5,8,9, and 17 to make sure that they are good. I am curious to know so CHECK NOW! LOL
